At the start of the treatment, the hair in the donor zone is shaved in a narrow strip. A slim strip of hair is then harvested from this area at the back of the head. The length of the strip depends on the number of grafts required. The wound is then closed, and the hair follicles are subsequently prepared under a high-resolution screen microscope.

During the period between harvesting and the actual hair transplantation, the grafts are stored in a special nutrient solution to protect them against growth disturbances.

The donor site is closed with a cosmetic suture. A scar remains, which can be concealed by hair of sufficient length. However, should the hair be shaved, the scar at the back of the head may become visible.
