Minimally invasive lifting: natural effects, gentle, long-lasting
The MACS Facelift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) is minimally invasive and therefore one of the gentlest lifting techniques available. The incision pattern differs from that of the SMAS or surgical Full Facelift: it is made through a comparatively small access point in front of the ear. The scars are concealed within the natural skin fold and are barely visible. Unlike classic lifting, the treatment can be performed under local anaesthesia!
The MACS was developed primarily to tighten descended facial areas such as the cheeks, jawline ( Jawline ) or neck as minimally invasively as possible, and is comparable to the Composite Facelift .
Unlike the conventional Mini Facelift , which only tightens the superficial facial skin, the results are longer-lasting and very natural. The recovery time is very short, at 10 to 14 days. The MACS Facelift is particularly suitable for individuals with less pronounced signs of ageing.

- Recovery time: Around 10 to 14 days (1-2 weeks)
- Longevity: Up to 10 years, depending on skin condition
- Suitable for: Moderate skin laxity, less pronounced ageing of cheeks, jawline and neck
- Effect: Very natural result, no mask-like appearance
MACS: An Ultra-Modern Minimal-Access Lift
The incisions are placed in front of the ear. The lift is performed gently upwards – against the effects of gravity. Through a small access point, the deeper tissue layers can be repositioned. Unlike earlier lifting techniques, the tissue is manipulated only minimally. It is restored to its original, youthful position. After the healing phase, the scars are virtually invisible.
The focus of the MACS Facelift lies in the vertical lifting of the so-called SMAS layer. This tissue layer consists of muscular tissue, subcutaneous fat, and connective tissue.
Indications for the MACS Facelift
The MACS Facelift is particularly well suited for:
- descended cheeks
- contouring of the jawline ( Jawline )
- deep nasolabial folds
- moderately sagging skin on the neck
If you desire a noticeable yet gentle rejuvenation of your face and have limited time for a lengthy recovery, the MACS Facelift may be the method of choice for you. Your skin condition, the degree of wrinkling, your desired outcome, and your general state of health also play an important role.
Non-surgical methods may also be sufficient to subtly rejuvenate your face. To find out, a specialist consultation is necessary. Please feel free to arrange an appointment with Dr. Karl Schuhmann in Düsseldorf.

Combination Treatments for Even Better Results
For a harmonious overall appearance, we can combine the MACS with additional treatments:
Facetide and MACS Facelift: In this highly effective combination treatment, the skin and cheeks are prepared. Facetide delivers precisely focused radiofrequency energy for lasting skin tightening and stimulation of collagen and elastin production in the skin. The effects: rejuvenation, firming, and reduction of a double chin . The results of this combination are comparable to those of a Full Facelift , yet it is considerably gentler, minimally invasive, and requires only local anaesthesia.
Hyaluronic acid , autologous fat , or Botox treatments: With additional targeted injections, we can smooth fine lines or restore volume to the skin.

Frequently asked questions
Will I look mask-like after the MACS Facelift?
Definitely not! Earlier lifting techniques, of the kind associated with Hollywood celebrities, involved tightening only the skin horizontally, without addressing the deeper underlying tissue. This resulted in the dreaded unnatural "lifted" look. With the MACS Facelift, your natural facial expressions and features are left unchanged. To preserve a youthful appearance and ensure long-lasting results, the lift must address the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS) – a tissue layer composed of connective tissue and the muscles of facial expression.
Is the MACS Facelift suitable for my skin?
The MACS Facelift is particularly well suited to younger patients with moderate age-related changes – while the SMAS or surgical Full Facelift is used for more pronounced skin laxity. For severely sagging skin, the Deep Plane Facelift is a further alternative. The MACS is comparable to the Composite Facelift and is exceptionally kind to the skin. Only a relatively small access point is required (fewer incisions and fewer scars). Combination treatments have proven especially effective – for example, in conjunction with minimally invasive radiofrequency (Facetide). This combination treatment can produce effects of comparable intensity to a surgical Full Facelift, with significantly fewer side effects and a faster healing phase.
What is the difference between a MACS Facelift and a classic facelift?
The MACS Facelift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) is a minimally invasive variant of the facelift. It is performed through small incisions in front of the ear and focuses on lifting the cheek area and jaw contour. Compared to the classic facelift, the MACS technique is less invasive, involves shorter healing times, and leaves smaller, less visible scars. General anaesthesia is not required.
How long do the results of a MACS Facelift last?
The results are long-lasting and, depending on skin type, age, and lifestyle, can remain visible for up to ten years. A healthy lifestyle, sun protection, and a good skincare routine can also help to prolong the effect.
How do I prepare for a MACS Facelift?
Prior to the treatment, you will receive very detailed information from us. This includes: discontinuing any medications that affect blood clotting (e.g. aspirin). Where possible, refraining from nicotine for at least 10 days, as this promotes healing and helps prevent wound healing complications. Allow yourself a little relaxation before the treatment, drink plenty of fluids, and eat as healthily as possible. Please plan for approximately 10 days of recovery following the facelift.
What does a MACS Facelift cost?
The cost of a MACS Facelift varies slightly depending on skin condition, degree of wrinkling, and individual expectations. During your personal consultation, you will receive a transparent breakdown of costs covering all aspects of the treatment. The combination treatment comprising MACS and Facetide costs approximately €10,000.
Is the treatment painful?
No! The treatment itself is pain-free thanks to the anaesthesia used. Local anaesthesia is sufficient for the MACS Facelift. In the first few days following surgery, mild discomfort, a feeling of tension in the face, redness, and swelling may occur. These can be well managed with pain relief medication and physical rest.
