Refined Aesthetic Surgery for Natural Contours
The natural ageing process is particularly evident in the neck. The skin loses its firmness, the muscle band (platysma) becomes visible. Fat tissue often accumulates around the chin – and the chin-to-neck contour begins to blur. Once skin laxity is advanced, non-surgical treatments are frequently insufficient. In such cases, surgical neck tightening can provide an effective and lasting solution. At artethic®

What happens during surgical neck tightening?

During surgical neck tightening (cervicoplasty or platysmaplasty), we remove excess skin, tighten the muscle bands, and reduce areas of fat accumulation where necessary – for example, in the area of a double chin.
Tightening Methods – Surgical Neck Lift:
SMAS Technique
This method is particularly suited to significantly lax tissue. We tighten both the skin and the underlying musculo-aponeurotic layer simultaneously. The result: a stable, long-lasting lift.
Platysmaplasty (Direct Muscle Tightening)
Where the central muscle band (platysma) has visibly separated, targeted tightening of the musculature is recommended. This is often performed in combination with a
Full Facelift
or through a small incision beneath the chin.
Combination with Facelift: the
Full Facelift
It is often advantageous to combine neck tightening with a
Facelift
. With a
Full Facelift
, the face and neck are lifted harmoniously within a single procedure. The aim is a cohesive overall appearance – with no visible transition between a lifted face and an untreated neck.
Planning is always individualised: not every patient requires a
Full Facelift
. During a personal consultation, we will determine together which technique is most appropriate for your facial and neck profile – taking into account the expected outcome, extent of treatment, and recovery time.
When is surgical neck tightening appropriate?
Surgical treatment may be appropriate when:
there is noticeable skin laxity or excess skin
the musculature (platysma) is visibly lax
a
double chin
or areas of fat accumulation are present
a harmonious result with longer-lasting effect is desired
minimally invasive treatments have been exhausted or are insufficiently effective
The Treatment Process in Four Steps
1. Consultation & Planning
Thorough examination and photographic documentation. Discussion of the most suitable technique (e.g. SMAS, MACS, or platysmaplasty) and, where appropriate, combination with a
Facelift
or
Liposuction
. Carried out at our practice in Düsseldorf.
2. Day of Surgery & Preparation
Treatment performed at one of our partner clinics. Under general anaesthesia, with a clear surgical plan. Full briefing on what to do before and after the operation.
3. Aftercare & Recovery
Wound check and suture removal after 14 days where required. Wearing of a light compression dressing. Reduced physical activity for approximately 2 weeks.
4. Follow-Up & Assessment of Results
Regular check-ups until complete healing. Final result visible after approximately 10 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
How long do the results of surgical neck tightening last?
Results last for many years. The tissue continues to age naturally, but the improved contour remains visible. Radiofrequency or ultrasound treatments can further support the longevity of results.
How visible are the scars?
Incisions are placed so that they are barely noticeable afterwards – usually behind the ear or within natural skin folds beneath the chin.
Are there alternatives to surgical neck tightening?
Quantum RF is a sensible option for mild laxity or as a preventive measure; an individualised skin analysis is essential.
What are the risks of surgical neck tightening?
Bruising, swelling, or impaired wound healing may occur, but are rare when the procedure is performed by an experienced surgeon. Homoeopathic preparations such as bromelain or arnica can support the healing process.
Can I return to work or exercise after the operation?
After approximately 10–14 days you will generally be fit to return to work. Sport should be avoided for at least two weeks.
Where does the operation take place?
Procedures are carried out either at the practice or at one of our partner clinics (Privatklinik Bel Etage or Klinik Neuer Stahlhof) in Düsseldorf.
Can treatment be combined with other procedures?
Yes – neck tightening is frequently combined with a facelift, chin liposuction, or eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) to achieve harmonious results within a single recovery period.
How can I prepare for the operation?
Avoid nicotine and blood-thinning medications; plan one to two quiet weeks after the operation, following a thorough pre-operative assessment.
