Deep Plane Facelift

Deep Plane Facelift: An Investment in Timeless Beauty

Does your outward appearance still reflect the youthful vitality you feel within? If your face is already showing the natural signs of ageing, it may be time for a Facelift – not merely to halt the passage of time, but to reverse it. Time-proven techniques such as the Deep Plane Facelift restore even the deeper facial structures to their original position, recreating the youthful contour of your face without compromising your natural expressions.

Technique and Precision at the Forefront

The fine, highly precise incisions are placed so that they lie within the natural skin folds, rendering them virtually invisible. Concealed along the hairline and behind the ears. In the Deep Plane Facelift the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS), the muscular tissue, and the subcutaneous fatty tissue are carefully elevated, repositioned, and fixed without tension. This technique not only smooths pronounced wrinkles and tightens sagging areas such as jowls and crêpe-like folds, but also profoundly improves the overall facial and neck contours. The Deep Plane Facelift has been performed since 1992 – with numerous successes and extensive long-term results!

The Decisive Difference

Compared with the more contemporary SMAS lift, which also tightens the SMAS layer, the Deep Plane Facelift additionally releases the retaining ligaments and adjusts them individually. This allows us to address even pronounced signs of ageing effectively. The risk of nerve injury is slightly higher with this treatment – yet remains very low in the hands of an experienced surgeon. Which technique is best suited is always an individual decision.

Reasons for a Deep Plane Facelift?

Depending on your skin condition and personal goals, this technique may be the ideal choice – particularly for patients with a marked loss of elasticity in the connective tissue and the delicate facial musculature. The Deep Plane Facelift is well suited to rejuvenating the face and neck in their entirety, without altering the natural facial features or the muscles of expression. With long-lasting results – of up to 15 years.

  • Natural Rejuvenation
  • Results lasting up to 15 years
  • No mask-like appearance: reduced tension on the skin, as the entire SMAS layer is repositioned.
  • No visible scarring

The Deep Plane Facelift improves the overall facial structure – profoundly.

The Operation: A Surgical Masterpiece

The Facelift is performed under general anaesthesia and takes several hours, depending on the specific requirements. After approximately two to three weeks you will be able to resume your normal activities – by which point swelling and skin redness will have largely subsided. The complete healing process, however, may take several months.

During the first four weeks following the Facelift you should avoid strenuous physical activity, prolonged sun exposure, and visits to the sauna. The treatment is carried out in a specialist aesthetic surgery clinic. Please plan for one night's stay at the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

The Deep Plane Facelift is an in-depth facial rejuvenation treatment that addresses the deeper underlying structures. The surgical work is carried out beneath the SMAS layer, releasing key retaining ligaments in order to elevate and reposition the entire facial structure. This approach delivers impressive, naturally appearing results.

What results can you expect from a Deep Plane Facelift?

You can expect intensive skin tightening involving the connective tissue and muscle fibres, a marked improvement in wrinkles, and a significant, harmonious rejuvenation that can last up to 15 years. The technique is particularly well suited to the mid-face, jawline, and neck profile. Full healing develops over several months. The treatment requires many years of operative experience in the facial region – Dr. Schuhmann has over 25 years of experience.

What risks and side effects are possible?

In the first few days following the treatment, you should expect moderate swelling and bruising – these are entirely normal and will resolve. Wound-edge discomfort may occur but is minimal and manageable. Suture removal takes place at approximately 10 days. Most of our patients are able to return to work after around two to three weeks.

Which surgical technique is appropriate and when?

This question is best addressed during an individual consultation with Dr. Schuhmann. The consultation takes into account the desired changes and any possible combination treatments.

What distinguishes the Deep Plane Facelift from other lifting techniques?

Unlike more superficial techniques, the Deep Plane Facelift focuses on the deeper facial layers, enabling more effective and longer-lasting results.

Is any special preparation required for this operation?

Yes. Preparation includes a comprehensive health evaluation and specific instructions such as cessation of smoking.

Can a Deep Plane Facelift be combined with other aesthetic treatments?

Yes. The technique combines excellently with other procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid correction), rhinoplasty (nose correction), or needling treatments for holistic facial rejuvenation.
