Polynucleotide Skin Rejuvenation
Auf dieser Seite
Over time, our skin loses firmness, moisture and elasticity. The unwelcome consequences: it becomes slacker and increasingly dry. Whilst fillers and cosmetics can achieve volume restoration and improved hydration, they do not deliver fundamental skin rejuvenation. Polynucleotides are different! They go the decisive step further: they act as cellular regenerators, stimulating skin renewal in the relevant skin layers. The skin becomes smoother and healthier – as soon as a few weeks after treatment.

Triple biostimulation for lasting skin renewal
Polynucleotides
(PDRN) are biocompatible molecules – more precisely, protein compounds – that occur naturally in our bodies, within our DNA. They act as antioxidants, cell protectors and growth factors, including for our skin cells. Their key functions:
Building skin protection
The skin barrier is strengthened against external influences.
↑
Reducing inflammation
Neutralisation of free radicals and improvement of skin texture.
↑
Activating cell regeneration
Stimulation of fibroblasts to promote new formation of collagen and elastin.
Polynucleotides
have the ability, in addition to their regenerative effect, to stably bind moisture in deeper skin layers: this makes the skin appear plumper, finer-pored and more resilient, and better able to resist premature ageing.
Effects and indications of polynucleotides (PDRN)
Polynucleotides
(PDRN) are highly versatile – and are particularly well suited as an anti-ageing active ingredient for sensitive and difficult-to-treat skin areas. We recommend them for the following applications, for example:
Skin rejuvenation across the entire face
to improve skin density and firmness.
The eye area and
dark circles
: reduction of fine dehydration lines and stimulation of microcirculation.
Neck, décolletage, hands
: biological firming and strengthening of skin structure.
Scars and acne scarring
: healing and correction of uneven skin texture.
Lax or sun-damaged skin
: deep-acting regeneration through cellular repair mechanisms.
Prevention of premature skin ageing
: stabilisation of the skin barrier.
Skin protection
: effective barrier against moisture loss and dehydration.
Polynucleotide treatment is suitable for all skin types and can be used both preventively and for existing skin concerns. Do you have questions?

Polynucleotides vs. fillers (e.g. hyaluronic acid): what are the differences?
Fillers
such as
hyaluronic acid
are designed to rapidly create intensive volume in the skin and to retain large amounts of moisture.
Polynucleotides
, by contrast, work on entirely different levels:
Deep-acting cell regeneration
. Whilst
hyaluronic acid
stores moisture, polynucleotides
regenerate
the skin from within.
Long-term skin firming
. Through stimulation of fibroblasts, the structural proteins collagen and elastin are newly formed. The structural framework of the skin is strengthened.
Reduced volumising effects
. These biostimulators have less of a plumping action, but instead firm and strengthen the skin structure.
The result
: a healthier, more vital and more youthful complexion over the long term.
Polynucleotides and fibroblasts: the foundation for firm skin
Fibroblasts are
specialised skin cells
responsible for producing collagen and elastin – two essential proteins for youthful, resilient skin. As we age, fibroblast activity in the skin declines. The consequence is the formation of wrinkles; the skin loses its firmness and becomes increasingly lax overall. With polynucleotides, we target precisely this process, through:
Activation of fibroblasts for natural skin firming
Promotion of collagen and elastin production for long-term improvement of skin structure
Support of cellular repair following damage caused by UV radiation or environmental toxins
The tissue regenerates continuously over several weeks and months following treatment –
and thus continues to rejuvenate over a defined period of time.
Combinations with other treatments – maximum synergistic effects
Combinations are often beneficial – and represent one of our key areas of focus at Artethic Medical Aesthetics. For example, when a rapid lifting effect is desired in addition to skin improvement, or when you are experiencing pronounced pigmentation irregularities (age spots), an uneven complexion, or troublesome facial vessels. The same applies to under-eye bags,
malar bags
or markedly atrophic skin (ageing skin). Possible options:
Morpheus8
(radiofrequency microneedling)
– first improve skin structure, then maximise regeneration with polynucleotides.
Quantum RF
– first achieve deeper tissue tightening via radiofrequency, then apply
polynucleotides
for fine refinement of the skin.
PRP
(
autologous blood therapy
)
– a combination of the body's own growth factors and polynucleotides for intensive skin renewal.
Skinbooster
– used alternately for lasting skin rejuvenation.
Accutite
for skin tightening and collagen stimulation.
Polynucleotides
for the eyes: PhilArt Eye
For the eye area, we use a specialist preparation called PhilArt Eye to smooth wrinkles, reduce
dark circles
and firm the skin. The outstanding effects here too: a visibly more even skin texture without filters, increased collagen production and therefore greater firmness. The eye area appears younger and fresher!
Treatment process
The treatment is minimally invasive, generally very well tolerated, and is carried out at our practice in Düsseldorf, usually across several sessions.
Analysis and consultation
: At your first visit, a thorough skin analysis is performed. Based on this analysis, we can address your individual skin concerns with great precision and recommend treatments or combinations that will truly benefit you.
Injection technique
: Gentle microinjections, distributed across defined bio-aesthetic points.
Skin response and healing
: Mild redness or possible swelling subsides within a few hours.
Effect and aftercare
: Visible improvements after a few weeks; optimally, 3 sessions spaced 3 weeks apart are recommended.

Frequently asked questions
What is polynucleotide skin rejuvenation?
Polynucleotides for skin rejuvenation is a professional aesthetic treatment carried out at artethic® in Düsseldorf by experienced specialist physicians. In a personal consultation, we will explain all the details of the treatment to you.
How long does polynucleotide skin rejuvenation take?
The duration of treatment varies depending on the scope and individual requirements. We will advise you of the estimated duration during your personal consultation.
What does polynucleotide skin rejuvenation cost?
The cost of polynucleotide skin rejuvenation is determined individually following a personal consultation. The price depends on the extent of treatment and your individual wishes. We are happy to provide you with a no-obligation quote.
How can I book a consultation for polynucleotide skin rejuvenation?
You can book a consultation by telephone on +49 211 87598360 or via our online contact form. The initial consultation is entirely without obligation, and we allow ample time for all your questions.
How is the polynucleotide injection performed?
Our specialist physicians inject these in gel form directly into the skin. The treatment is performed using very fine cannulas and is considered exceptionally gentle. If required, a light anaesthetic cream can be applied a few minutes before the treatment – you will then barely feel the injections. Over the days and weeks – and up to several months – following treatment, polynucleotides continuously improve skin elasticity, hydration and overall skin quality. The skin gradually becomes firmer and more vital as a result of fibroblast growth and enhanced collagen production.
Are the results of the treatment long-lasting?
Yes. The results of a treatment with biostimulants such as polynucleotides are generally long-lasting. Since natural skin ageing continues nonetheless and the skin is subject to a wide range of daily environmental and lifestyle stresses, we recommend regular maintenance treatments.
Am I able to return to work after polynucleotide treatment?
Almost all of our patients resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment, whether personal or professional. Any redness around the injection sites can generally be concealed easily with make-up. We recommend a specialist eye mask, which you will receive from us after your treatment. You can also purchase this for use over the following days at our practice.
Which areas can be treated with polynucleotides?
At the practice of Dr. Karl Schuhmann and colleagues (Artethic Medical Aesthetics) in Düsseldorf, we use polynucleotides on the face, around the eyes, on the neck and décolletage, on the hands, and in all areas where lasting skin rejuvenation and revitalisation is desired. Another major area of application is the treatment of fine hair and hair loss. Unlike conventional fillers, the injection of polynucleotides under the eyes carries no long-term complications, as the active substance does not burden the fatty tissue with excessive fluid retention.
When do the effects of polynucleotide treatment become visible?
The results are a consequence of the accelerated natural regeneration of the skin. It produces increased amounts of collagen and elastin – a process that requires some time. The effect therefore develops gradually. Here is an overview: Directly after treatment, the skin immediately appears plumper and firmer following the injection. It is now well hydrated. This effect diminishes slightly over the following days. Minor redness is possible, which subsides within a few days. To accelerate this, we recommend Arnica D6 (globules) or bromelain (pineapple enzymes). First visible improvements after 2 to 4 weeks: the first regenerative effect of the polynucleotides becomes apparent. The skin feels firmer, appears smoother and gains in resilience and elasticity. Fine lines may already be reduced. After the 2nd treatment (at 8 weeks), the 3×3 formula applies: ideally, you will require three treatments spaced three weeks apart. Maximum effect after 8 to 12 weeks: approximately six months to a year after the treatment, the full effect of the polynucleotides has developed. New collagen fibres have formed, and the complexion appears fresher, more youthful and more radiant.
What side effects are possible?
Typical side effects include skin redness and, in some cases, a slightly raised, whealed appearance around the eyes. We recommend an eye mask for continued care at home. You will also receive this mask directly after your treatment – so that you are socially presentable again by the following day at the latest. To minimise side effects, we recommend enzymes such as Arnica D6. Take these three to four days before the injection. You can obtain these homoeopathic remedies from your pharmacy.
What costs should I expect for a treatment with polynucleotides for skin and eyes?
We charge (as of March 2025) €450 per individual treatment – for a course of 3 × 3 sessions.
Will I be able to return to normal activities after polynucleotide treatment?
Almost all of our patients resume their normal activities – whether personal or professional – immediately after treatment. Any redness around the injection sites can usually be easily concealed with make-up. We recommend a specialist eye mask, which you will receive from us following the treatment. You can also purchase this for the days ahead at our practice.
