Upper eyelid surgery
Upper eyelid surgery is performed to remove hooded eyelids, which can make the face look tired and impair the field of vision.
Lower eyelid surgery
Lower eyelid surgery is performed when you are troubled by under-eye bags or malar bags. In Düsseldorf, I offer both a standard lower eyelid surgery and an extended lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) to remove under-eye bags, malar bags, and wrinkles beneath the eyes.

What does the eyelid surgery process involve?
For upper eyelid surgery, you will receive either local anaesthesia or sedation in line with modern quality standards. Through a small incision, the excess upper eyelid skin is removed along the natural crease of the lid. In most cases the operation is performed on an outpatient basis. The wound is closed with the finest suture material, and the resulting scar follows the natural lid crease precisely – in most cases it is virtually invisible.
For lower eyelid surgery, a fine incision is made, for example just below the lashes (externally) to remove excess skin, or alternatively on the inside via the conjunctiva of the lower lid. Troublesome under-eye bags consisting of fatty tissue and excess tissue can be removed at the same time. The excess skin is then removed and smoothed. If only fatty tissue is present without loose skin, it should be approached via the inner surface of the lower eyelid, so that no external scarring occurs. In some patients with a particularly weak or drooping lower lid, an additional lateral tightening of the lower lid muscle – known as canthoplasty – produces a more natural result.
The eyelid correction treatment in Düsseldorf can be performed on an outpatient basis under twilight sedation or under general anaesthesia. After the treatment, you should rest your eyelids and apply cool compresses for a few days. Sutures are removed after 5 days, and after 10 days the treatment is barely noticeable. Should any swelling occur in the interim, it can usually be resolved with a massage technique that we will show you. Cold packs also provide relief.
