What PRP Is and How It Works

PRP

is concentrated plasma obtained by centrifuge from your own blood. Rich in growth factors and proteins, it acts as a booster for skin renewal and revitalisation of hair follicles.
PRP

is derived from your own body and is therefore very well tolerated.

The prepared plasma is delivered precisely where regenerative processes are to be initiated – within the skin, scalp, or scar tissue.

PRP

(Platelet Rich Plasma) and PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) differ in their preparation and mode of action.

Applications in Aesthetic Medicine

Skin rejuvenation:

  • Fine lines, loss of firmness, impaired elasticity

  • Dark circles

    , dull or thinning complexion

  • Skin regeneration for scars (acne, surgery, pregnancy)

Hair:

  • Treatment for diffuse, hormonal, or stress-related
    hair loss

  • Stabilising support following hair transplantation and to strengthen existing hair follicles

  • Preventive treatment during periods of temporary stress caused by infections (COVID), hormonal fluctuations (such as during breastfeeding), or autoimmune stress, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis

PRP

is only effective when follicles are still active; no effect in cases of complete follicle loss.

The PRP Treatment Process

Each session takes approximately one hour:

  1. Blood draw for
    PRP

    collection

: We take a small amount of blood, similar to a routine laboratory test.

  2. Processing

: Your own blood is processed in a dual-chamber centrifuge, separating the platelet- and growth factor-rich plasma from the remaining components.

  3. Application

    :
    PRP

is introduced into the skin or scalp using very fine cannulas, as part of a microneedling treatment, or in combination with
    exosomes

    or polynucleotides.

  4. Recovery phase

: Temporary redness or mild swelling is possible before regeneration begins. In most cases, you will be socially presentable immediately or by the following day.

PRP

– what matters is who performs the treatment.

At our practice: exclusively specialist physicians in plastic and aesthetic surgery. With a trained eye for tissue structures and proportions. We are open about when a treatment is appropriate. And equally, when it is not."

Frequently asked questions

How quickly will I see initial results?

For skin treatments, a fresher, smoother complexion is usually visible after 2–3 weeks. It takes several weeks for the full effect to become apparent. For hair treatments, it generally takes 2–3 months before the first new hairs become visible. Depending on the treatment goal, additional methods or active ingredients may be considered. We will discuss these at your appointment at our practice in Düsseldorf.

How does PRP differ from PRF?

PRF is a further development of PRP and is produced by a slightly longer centrifugation time (prepared in our practice). The higher fibrin content ensures that growth factors from the plasma are released more slowly and, at the same time, more sustainably. Suitable, for example, in cases of advanced hair loss. Which treatments can be combined with PRP?

Depending on the condition of the skin and hair, and on the basis of a thorough analysis, complementary treatments may be considered. For example in combination with exosomes, polynucleotides, Morpheus8, microneedling or HIFU.

Are there differences in PRP preparation?

The centrifuge system, the plasma extraction technique and the concentration are all decisive factors. At our practice in Düsseldorf, we use a closed dual-chamber centrifuge to ensure maximum sterility and active ingredient concentration.

How long do the results of a PRP treatment last?

This depends on the initial findings. For skin treatments, the effect remains visible for up to one year, depending on lifestyle and skin type. In some cases even longer. For hair loss, we recommend one to two maintenance sessions per year to stabilise the result.
