With a surgical Full
Facelift
, you can align your appearance with your youthful spirit! Under the experienced guidance of
Dr. Karl Schuhmann
, one of the leading experts in facial surgery in Düsseldorf. The Full
Facelift
is a comprehensive and in-depth facial and
neck lift
. Unlike conventional lifting procedures,
Dr. Schuhmann
employs the most advanced techniques to tighten not only the skin but also the underlying tissue (SMAS layer). The goal is a harmonious and highly natural overall result. Our patients do not look "lifted" after the procedure – simply younger, more vital, and more beautiful.
The technique behind the Full Facelift
The treatment begins with a delicate and precise incision, typically starting at the temples and running along the ears to allow discreet access to deeper tissue layers. The SMAS (superficial musculo-aponeurotic system), which is crucial for the elasticity and firmness of the skin, is carefully adjusted. Through meticulous tightening and repositioning of the tissue – including muscles, fat, and skin – we achieve a natural rejuvenation. Facial contours are aesthetically defined without compromising natural facial expression.
The advantage of modern techniques
In contrast to earlier methods, in which the skin was tightened unnaturally, our Full
Facelift
allows a redistribution of tissue without creating unnecessary tension. Once healed, the scars are virtually invisible, concealed within the natural skin folds at the hairline. In this way, we can turn back the clock by many years – up to 10 or 15 years.

Unique advantages with Dr. Schuhmann
Every Full
Face Lifting
begins with a thorough skin analysis and a personal
consultation
. It is important to us to understand your wishes precisely and to tailor the treatment plan accordingly. The treatment itself takes between 30 minutes and one hour, depending on its scope. In most cases, anaesthesia is not required. Immediately afterwards, you can return to your everyday activities as normal and enjoy your more youthful appearance. As the tissue continues to renew itself in the weeks and months following the Full
Face Lifting
, the result will continue to improve.
The surgical Full
Facelift
is an art
Surgical facelifts are an art form that combines the highest precision with a profound understanding of anatomy. Only in this way is a dramatic yet natural improvement of your facial features possible.
Dr. Schuhmann
, with over 25 years of experience in plastic facial surgery, stands for results that look truly natural. These are maintained over many years without the face appearing "over-corrected" or unnatural. Every treatment is individually tailored to the facial structures and skin elasticity of each patient. Possible
facelift
techniques – depending on skin condition – include the SMAS technique, the
Deep Plane Facelift
, or the
MACS Facelift
(for selective tightening).
The surgical process
The
facelift
takes approximately 3 to 5 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia – so you can relax completely while your rejuvenation takes place. A brief hospital stay is usually required; please plan for approximately one to two days. Afterwards, you can continue to recover at home and visit our practice for a follow-up appointment and suture removal. Allow approximately three weeks before resuming your usual professional and everyday activities.
A degree of swelling and bruising in the first few days after the procedure is completely normal. These side effects will gradually subside. Please take things easy in the initial period to support the healing process. Wherever possible, avoid direct intense sun exposure – including sunbeds – for several months.
Is a Full Facelift right for me?
A Full Facelift is suitable for individuals who wish to achieve comprehensive rejuvenation of the facial and neck contours and for whom less invasive methods may not be sufficient. Good general health and realistic expectations regarding the treatment outcome are advantageous. To help you visualise the expected results before the procedure, a 3D simulation is included as part of your consultation at our practice in Düsseldorf.
Frequently asked questions
How much time should I allow before I am fully presentable in public again?
Recovery time is highly individual and depends, among other factors, on your skin condition and wound healing. In most cases, our patients are able to resume their normal activities after two to three weeks. By this time, swelling and bruising will have largely subsided – and any minor redness can be easily concealed with a little make-up.
What exactly is a Full Facelift?
A Full Facelift is a comprehensive facial rejuvenation that can extend from the forehead to the neck area. The treatment goal is to minimise the signs of ageing by tightening the skin. Unlike smaller procedures that focus on specific facial areas, the Full Facelift offers holistic rejuvenation. Compared with older facelift methods, Dr. Karl Schuhmann employs innovative lifting techniques that incorporate the underlying tissue layers into the tightening process. The advantages of these methods: longer-lasting and highly natural results that respect natural facial expression and the individual facial structure.
Which areas are improved by a Full Facelift?
A Full Facelift can rejuvenate and aesthetically enhance several facial areas simultaneously. These include tightening of the cheeks and eye area, reduction of nasolabial folds, correction of sagging chin and neck contours, and improvement of the jawline.
How long do the results of a Full Facelift last?
Depending on individual circumstances, results can last ten years or more. A healthy lifestyle and appropriate skincare treatments, where relevant, can help to maximise their longevity.
What risks and side effects are associated with a Full Facelift?
Possible risks and side effects include bleeding, swelling, redness, and scarring. In most cases, these subside within a few days of the procedure. Infections, nerve damage, or asymmetry are very rare. When the procedure is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, such risks are minimal.
Can a Full Facelift be combined with other treatments?
Yes. A Full Facelift can be combined very well with rejuvenation treatments such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) or a brow lift – for a harmonious overall effect and, where appropriate, to further enhance aesthetic results.
How do I prepare for a Full Facelift?
Before a Full Facelift, it is important to undergo a thorough medical assessment. We advise smokers to refrain from smoking for several weeks before and after surgery to promote healing.
