Introduction
In the
hybrid
breast augmentation
, known in English as
Composite Breast Augmentation
, the best of two worlds in breast surgery techniques is combined. This procedure combines a
breast augmentation
with implants
and a
breast augmentation with autologous fat
.

In a
breast procedure using an implant and
autologous fat
(hybrid
breast augmentation
), the breast implant is responsible for the actual volume increase of the breast. The
autologous fat
cushions the tissue surrounding the breast implant. This optimally conceals the
breast implant
, covering it with soft, natural body tissue and autologous fat. The hybrid
breast augmentation
technique is particularly suited to patients who wish to enlarge their breasts in a natural way and also desire an increase of more than one cup size – for example, from A to C.
Many women choose to undergo breast surgery at some point in their lives. In Germany, according to the Association of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeons (VPÄPC), approximately 4,759 breast augmentations were performed in 2021. This places
breast augmentation
in fifth position among surgical aesthetic procedures for women.

Which breast augmentation is right for me?
A
breast augmentation
can be carried out either as a
breast augmentation
with implants or as a
breast augmentation with autologous fat
. This decision depends significantly on the volume increase desired.
A
breast augmentation
using exclusively
autologous fat
is particularly suitable for women who wish for only a modest increase of 1–1.5 cup sizes, who prefer to avoid foreign bodies such as
breast implants
, and who have sufficient fat deposits on their body. Depending on the patient, this typically amounts to approximately 150–350 ml of fat volume per breast.
A
breast augmentation
with implants alone is suitable for patients with breast asymmetry, or when
autologous fat
is to be used to improve the overall fullness and shape of the breast.
A hybrid
breast augmentation
(a combination of implants and
autologous fat
) is particularly well suited to patients with limited skin and soft tissue coverage. Implants often become visible or palpable when placed into a breast with little natural tissue of its own. By layering autologous fat over the implant, the transition between the implant and the breast tissue can be effectively concealed.

Advantages of a hybrid
breast augmentation
in Düsseldorf
Breast enlargement using an implant and
autologous fat
combined treatment in a single operation
a choice of different implant shapes and volumes
natural feel to the touch
very natural result
What should you consider before a hybrid
breast augmentation
?
Approximately 2 weeks before a hybrid
breast augmentation
, you should avoid painkillers containing acetylsalicylic acid, such as aspirin, as their blood-thinning effect can cause unwanted post-operative bleeding. Any other medications should also be discontinued before the operation after consultation with your treating physician. Nicotine and alcohol should be significantly reduced 3 to 4 weeks before the operation.
How does a hybrid
breast augmentation
in Düsseldorf proceed?
Several steps are required to augment the breast with a hybrid
breast augmentation
. First, autologous fat is harvested and processed by means of
liposuction
. The
autologous fat
is preferably taken from the abdomen or thighs. This simultaneously improves the contour of these areas of concern.
The processed fat is then injected around the implant. The surgeon subsequently places the silicone implant into the breast.
What should you bear in mind after a hybrid
breast augmentation
?
As with any surgical procedure, bruising, swelling, and discomfort may occur following a hybrid
breast augmentation
. Driving, lifting heavy objects, and raising the arms above shoulder height should be avoided for the first 2–3 weeks.
A supportive bra / sports bra (underwire-free) should be worn day and night for 12 weeks.
Strenuous physical activity (competitive sport, physically demanding professional activities) should be avoided for 6 weeks.
To protect the healing process, sunbed use should be avoided for 6 months after the procedure, and the surgical scars should be protected from intense sun exposure.
Frequently asked questions about hybrid
breast augmentation
in Düsseldorf
For a hybrid
breast augmentation
, I recommend placing the implant beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular). This reduces the risk of
encapsulation
of the breast implant (
capsular fibrosis
). When the implant is placed above the pectoral muscle (subglandular), the natural barrier between the skin and the implant is absent. The implant is therefore more exposed to external forces, and may also become visible in the upper pole.
The advantages of hybrid breast augmentation:
specific areas of the breast can be shaped individually using
autologous fat
smaller implants can be used
minor irregularities and asymmetries can be corrected
the layer of autologous fat around the implant conceals any rippling or dimpling
greater long-term volume increase than with autologous fat transfer alone
the result is very natural
Disadvantages of hybrid breast augmentation:
an additional procedure is required in the form of
liposuction
the procedure takes longer than a
breast augmentation
with implants alone
Recovery takes longer due to the
liposuction
(mild swelling of the abdomen)
Immediately after breast surgery, the breast will initially feel tight and mild swelling may occur. After approximately 3 months, the skin envelope will have achieved the appropriate relaxed consistency to accommodate the implant without tension. The final result can then be fully assessed after 6–9 months.
Experience with Hybrid
Breast Augmentation
The Hybrid
Breast Augmentation
is a natural form of breast surgery with which the vast majority of women are extremely pleased. Experiences are consistently positive, as this combined breast procedure enlarges the breasts whilst simultaneously slimming the problem areas – such as the abdomen or thighs – from which the
autologous fat
is harvested.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the implant placed in hybrid breast augmentation? (submuscular / subglandular)
For hybrid breast augmentation, I recommend placing the implant beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular). This reduces the risk of capsular contracture around the breast implant. Placing the implant under the muscle results in fewer complications.
What are the advantages of hybrid breast augmentation?
The advantages of hybrid breast augmentation:
- •specific areas of the breast can be shaped individually using autologous fat
- •smaller implants can be used
- •minor irregularities and asymmetries of the breast can be corrected optimally with autologous fat
- •very beautiful, natural-looking result
- •excellent tactile feel, as the edges of the breast implants are barely palpable
- •recovery following hybrid breast augmentation is comparable to that of standard breast augmentation with implants
What are the disadvantages of hybrid breast augmentation?
The disadvantages of hybrid breast augmentation:
- •an additional step is required due to the liposuction
- •the procedure takes longer than standard breast augmentation with implants
- •recovery takes slightly longer than with standard breast augmentation with implants due to the liposuction
Is the downtime / recovery longer than with standard breast augmentation?
Downtime and recovery following hybrid breast augmentation are similar to those of standard breast augmentation with implants. A sports bra should be worn for 12 weeks. Physical exertion should be avoided for 4 weeks. The scar must not be exposed to sunlight for approximately six months. A compression garment should be worn for 6 weeks to support recovery from the liposuction.
Additional care is required owing to the fat transfer (liposuction). Fat cells are highly sensitive. To ensure optimal healing, it is recommended to rest and avoid strenuous activity during the first month of recovery. Mild discomfort following liposuction typically resolves after 3 to 4 weeks.
If you lose weight, does the fat disappear or does it remain in the breasts?
Transferred fat belongs to the body. With autologous fat transfer, body fat is simply removed from one area – for example the abdomen – and re-injected into another area, such as the breasts. If you gain weight, you gain it throughout the body; equally, if you lose weight, you lose it throughout the body.
How long does hybrid breast augmentation take?
Hybrid breast augmentation takes approximately 2 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia.
When will the results of hybrid breast augmentation be visible?
Immediately after breast surgery, the breast will initially feel tight and mild swelling may occur. After approximately 3 months, the skin envelope will have achieved the appropriate relaxed consistency to accommodate both the breast implant and the autologous fat without tension. The muscle requires approximately 6 weeks to stretch sufficiently. If a hybrid breast augmentation with lift is performed, any sensation of tightness tends to be less pronounced. The final shape, texture, and feel of the breasts typically settle after approximately 6 months.
What are the risks associated with hybrid breast augmentation?
In the hands of an experienced specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, the combination of breast augmentation with silicone implants and lipofilling represents a low-risk procedure.
How can I finance my hybrid breast augmentation?
You are considering cosmetic surgery but do not have the full amount available immediately. This need not stand in the way of fulfilling your wishes. We have identified two specialist partners who focus on financing medical treatments and who can, if required, help make your desired transformation and cosmetic surgery a reality. You can pay for your breast augmentation in comfortable instalments.

Inverted nipples are also referred to as retracted nipples. When the nipples are permanently non-protruding, the condition is known as true inverted nipples. The cause is usually a congenital shortening of the milk duct system. The desire to find out more about inverted nipple correction often arises for aesthetic reasons. There are various techniques for correcting inverted nipples – even without incisions. However, techniques that do require incisions will nowadays leave virtually no visible scarring. The inverted nipple correction in which the milk ducts are divided is the most common nipple procedure, as it prevents the nipple from inverting again following the treatment. The disadvantage of this method is that, due to the division of the milk ducts, breastfeeding is no longer possible. Nipple sensitivity is generally preserved, though it may be slightly reduced compared to before. The goal of inverted nipple correction in Düsseldorf is to restore the nipple to its natural, projecting position and to help the women concerned regain greater self-confidence. Inverted nipple correction can also be performed in combination with another breast procedure, such as a breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift.
Breast reconstruction enables women to rebuild their breast following mastectomy or breast cancer. Dr. Schuhmann offers a range of techniques – from implant-based breast reconstruction to reconstruction using autologous tissue (DIEP flap, TRAM flap). The goal is to restore a natural appearance and the patient's feminine sense of self.
