A multi-talented treatment for skin rejuvenation, pigmentation spots, and rosacea

Lumecca is THE next-generation IPL system – specifically developed for the effective, non-invasive treatment of pigmentation disorders, couperose, and wrinkles. Compared with older systems, the treatment can be precisely aligned to each individual’s skin profile. At Dr. Schuhmann’s practice in Düsseldorf, we also use this technology as part of anti-ageing treatments to achieve a rejuvenated and firmer skin texture. Suitable for use on the face, neck, décolletage, and body – including sensitive skin!

Fast and safe treatment: Lumecca treatments are quick and efficient, often lasting less than 30 minutes. As a rule, you can resume your daily activities immediately after treatment – with no downtime. Most of our patients report a noticeable improvement after just two to three sessions.

What is Lumecca?

Lumecca is based on intense pulsed light (IPL), which penetrates deep into the skin and precisely targets melanin and haemoglobin – the primary causes of pigmentation and vascular concerns. This precision enables us to effectively lighten and eliminate pigmentation spots and vascular lesions, while simultaneously stimulating skin regeneration. The result? A firmer, more even complexion and a rejuvenated radiance after just a few treatments.

Treatment areas and application

IPL treatment with Lumecca is suitable for:

  • Age spots and sun damage
  • Vascular lesions such as couperose and rosacea
  • Lax skin and wrinkles (skin rejuvenation)

Why Lumecca at Dr. Schuhmann & Colleagues?

  • Fast and safe: Most treatments last less than 30 minutes with minimal to no downtime.
  • Effective: Significant improvements often visible after just two to three sessions.
  • Versatile: Suitable for a wide range of skin types and skin concerns.

How Lumecca Transforms Your Skin

The heat generated by the treatment stimulates collagen production, tightens the skin from within, and visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Lumecca IPL also demonstrates an impressive effect on rosacea and couperose, selectively eliminating the affected vessels while additionally refining the overall skin relief.

Lumecca and Rosacea

Lumecca is a highly effective combination treatment for the prevention and management of rosacea. As rosacea presents in varying degrees of severity, a thorough skin analysis and consultation are always required before treatment. Please do not hesitate to contact us. Alternating with Lumecca, the HydraFacial has proven its worth for many skin concerns.

Individual Treatment for the Best Results

Just as unique as your skin is your treatment at our practice in Düsseldorf. Lumecca offers us a wide range of adjustment options, allowing us to fine-tune the light intensity and all treatment parameters precisely to your skin structure and your needs. Your skin is therefore carefully analysed before every session.

Lumecca & HydraFacial®

In this combination treatment, we unite intense light pulses with deep-acting skin cleansing. HydraFacial prepares the skin optimally, removes impurities, and replenishes moisture. No peel is performed! Lumecca then precisely targets pigmentation spots, vascular changes, and redness. The interval between the two treatments is 7–10 days: the Lumecca treatment first, followed by the HydraFacial 7–10 days later.

The result: a clear, even complexion with a visible freshness – ideal for sun-damaged or reactive skin too.

Lumecca & Morpheus8

With the innovative combination of IPL and fractional radiofrequency, we achieve comprehensive skin rejuvenation. While Lumecca clarifies the complexion and reduces pigmentation irregularities, Morpheus8 works deep within the dermis, delivering regenerative impulses there. The effect: an intensive collagen boost, visibly greater firmness, and improved skin density – with no downtime.

The result: a noticeably rejuvenated skin texture with a natural lifting effect – particularly well suited to diminishing elasticity in the face, neck, or décolletage.

Please note: The treatments can be combined in a single session. Repeat treatment is recommended after approximately 5 weeks – or at shorter intervals of 2–3 weeks, depending on skin condition.

Prior to every treatment, a comprehensive Visia® skin analysis is carried out. Your treatment plan is individually tailored to your skin quality.

Frequently asked questions

What happens during a Lumecca treatment at the practice?

Maximum effectiveness and comfort – that is the goal of every one of our treatments. During your first visit, we carry out a comprehensive skin analysis to ensure that Lumecca is the right treatment option for your skin concerns and wishes. All device settings are individually adjusted to your skin condition and treatment goal.

Safety matters to us: during the session you wear protective goggles to shield your eyes from the intense light energy. The treatment areas are prepared with a cooling gel to ensure a pleasant session and as much comfort as possible. The treatment itself is delivered with short light pulses that are applied precisely and absorbed immediately by the skin or specific cells.

Treatment with Lumecca is usually painless. Some of our patients report a slight stinging, roughly comparable to the snap of a rubber band. Each session lasts about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Slight redness may occur directly after the applications, but this subsides again within a few hours. We recommend avoiding direct sunlight after the treatment and using a high sun protection factor to protect and further optimise the results.

What distinguishes Lumecca from other IPL treatments?

With Lumecca, we at Dr. Schuhmann in Düsseldorf rely on one of the leading IPL technologies, which enables an even stronger and more efficient delivery of light. We achieve significantly better results in less time and fewer treatment sessions than with conventional IPL systems. This allows us to offer you a more targeted and deeper application – across a broad range of skin concerns.

How does Lumecca work?

The procedure uses intense pulsed light that is selectively absorbed by melanin (the skin pigment) in areas of pigmentation disorders and by haemoglobin, the red blood pigment. The absorbed energy is converted into heat, which precisely destroys certain cells and thus reduces pigmentation and dilated veins (couperose). The process also promotes skin regeneration and leads to a firmer and more even complexion.

Which skin concerns is Lumecca particularly suitable for?

The treatment is particularly effective for certain pigment spots, sun-damaged skin, a blotchy complexion, dilated vessels on the face and an uneven, flaky skin texture. In addition, we can also use the treatment as part of anti-ageing treatments.

How does Lumecca work in the treatment of age spots?

Lumecca uses advanced IPL technology (Intense Pulsed Light) to treat hyperpigmented areas of skin. The light energy is absorbed by the skin's melanin and converted into heat. The higher temperature destroys pigment-rich cell structures.

What should I bear in mind before and after the treatment?

Both before and after treatment with Lumecca, avoid direct and intense sunlight and do not use any cosmetics that may sensitise your skin. This also applies to taking certain medications or herbal remedies such as St John's wort. After the session, you should use a high sun protection where possible, as the skin is more sensitive to light, along with an effective moisturiser.

How long do the results of a Lumecca treatment last?

The exact duration can vary from case to case and depends largely on the type of skin concerns treated as well as the individual skin condition and many other factors. In principle, the improvements in pigmentation and vascular lesions can last several months to years – particularly when further triggers such as intense sun exposure are prevented.

To preserve the treatment for as long as possible, we recommend:

  • Regular use of sun protection to prevent new damage.
  • Preventive skincare treatments if needed.
  • Avoiding skin-damaging stressors such as environmental toxins and extreme temperatures.
  • Repeat refresher treatments as required.
