Botulinum Toxin
Botulinum toxin (commonly known by the brand name Botox®) relaxes the facial muscles and smooths wrinkles. When administered correctly by a specialist, the facial features are not altered. The active substance is used, for example, to treat forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines. The effect lasts for several months and is broken down by the body's own metabolism. How quickly this process occurs varies from individual to individual. Botulinum toxin is also used in medicine to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraine, and excessive muscle tension.
