Collagen

Alongside elastin, collagen is the most important structural protein in the skin and is essential for firmness, stability, and a smooth, taut skin texture. As we age, the body's own collagen production decreases whilst its breakdown simultaneously increases. The result is wrinkles, sagging skin, loss of elasticity, and volume loss (e.g. sunken cheeks or temples). Modern aesthetic treatments can stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen — for example: radiofrequency needling, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), bio-remodelling such as Profhilo or poly-L-lactic acid, or endogenous exosomes.
