Labioplasty
Labioplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or reshape the inner or outer labia. The motivation is often functional or aesthetic in nature: enlarged inner labia can cause discomfort during sport, when wearing tight clothing, or during sexual intercourse. During the procedure, excess tissue is removed with care and the natural contour is restored. The operation is usually performed under local anaesthesia or twilight sedation. Swelling and temporary changes in sensation are possible, but generally resolve in due course. In addition to functional improvements, many patients also report an enhanced quality of life and greater self-confidence. A thorough consultation with a specialist is important in order to establish realistic expectations and, where appropriate, to discuss alternative treatments.
