The classic

thread lift
has its limitations. A large number of threads is usually required to achieve the desired effect, yet the tissue often begins to sag again after just a few months.
Considerably more effective and longer-lasting is the combination with modern biostimulators (Sculptra®) – a union of
thread lifting
and liquid lifting with poly-L-lactic acid.

Sculptra® is a biostimulator that simultaneously acts as a
filler
. Its active ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid – a gel-like substance – is injected into the deeper layers of the skin, where it disperses through the tissue and stimulates the production of the skin's own collagen.
Its longevity is significantly greater than that of conventional fillers. The active ingredient itself is broken down by the body over a period of one to two years. Through collagen activation, the skin becomes progressively firmer and tighter over an extended period. Top-up treatments can be carried out at any time. In combination with the
thread lift
, usually only two threads are needed – one on the left and one on the right – for stabilisation.
A further advantage of the combination: with a pure
thread lift
, the skin tends to relax again some time after the threads are placed. With Sculptra®, we counteract this, for example in the temple or cheek area.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a liquid thread lift and the combination of thread lifting and Sculptra®?
The liquid thread lift is a variant of the classic thread lift. A liquid substance consisting of so-called micro-fillers is injected beneath the skin. In our experience, the intensity of the results is not yet comparable to that of classic thread lifting, modern biostimulation, or a combination thereof, and is rarely satisfactory. Moreover, there is currently limited study data available on this approach. For these reasons, at artethic® Dr. Schuhmann & Colleagues in Düsseldorf we favour the modern and highly effective combination of thread lifting (using a minimal number of PDO threads) and biostimulation of the skin.
How long does it take for the results to become visible?
As the biostimulator (Sculptra®) stimulates collagen production, its effect sets in gradually. Initial improvements are often visible after two months. The full effect develops over a longer period and can last up to 25 months or more.
Are there any contraindications?
Patients with active skin infections, certain autoimmune conditions, or a tendency towards hypertrophic scarring should seek a thorough consultation before treatment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should refrain from undergoing this treatment.
What should I be aware of during the recovery phase?
After treatment, mild redness, swelling, or minor bruising around the injection sites may occur. These typically resolve on their own within a few days. Avoid intense sun exposure, hot baths, and strenuous physical activity for approximately one week, as well as any exfoliating treatments or facial massage. Tip: you may wish to take Arnica D6 (globules) or bromelain (pineapple enzymes) for a few days following your Sculptra® injection, as these may support the healing process – but only after discussion with us. Why should aspirin (ASA) be discontinued one week before a Sculptra® treatment?
Minor haematomas are possible following the injection. Blood-thinning medications such as aspirin (ASA) should therefore ideally be discontinued one week before treatment – always in consultation with your GP first. Please speak to us if this is not possible.
