Adiposity

The term adiposity describes a pathological form of obesity. The proportion of body fat is significantly elevated in this condition. Classification is based on the Body Mass Index (BMI). Values of 30 and above are considered obese. In addition to aesthetic aspects, there is an increased risk of secondary conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or joint degeneration. In plastic surgery, adiposity plays a role primarily in procedures such as liposuction or extensive body-contouring operations. Treatment of the underlying condition generally requires an interdisciplinary approach encompassing nutritional medicine, exercise therapy, and, where appropriate, surgical intervention.
