What is the ideal of beauty for men? And what do women find attractive about them? While beauty operations were until a few years ago purely a women's topic, the tables have now turned. Plastic and aesthetic surgery is increasingly becoming a men's topic too. With 8,621 surgical procedures in 2018 and 9,184 operations in 2019, the increase in cosmetic procedures for men stands at 6.5 percent. For minimally invasive procedures, the largest professional association of aesthetic surgeons in Germany, the Vereinigung der Deutschen Ästhetisch-Plastischen Chirurgen (VDÄPC), even recorded an increase in treatments of 9.3 percent compared to the previous year. Men often do not desire a complete transformation, but rather a rejuvenation. They want to look 10 years younger again. The Corona pandemic has thoroughly shaken up our lives. The way we look in the mirror has also changed significantly due to Corona. Mask requirements and online meetings have placed a strong focus on the face and eyes. As a result, demand for eyelid lifts as well as hyaluronic acid treatments and wrinkle treatments with Botox has increased significantly. And both genders share the desire for facial rejuvenation.
Chin-Jawline
Those who desire a distinctive chin area can achieve this with the help of a so-called jawline correction. A pronounced chin appears masculine and gives the male face contour. The face looks more masculine and also more youthful. In some men, the lower facial area is not particularly pronounced even in their younger years. With increasing age, men's skin loses even more elasticity and volume. The result is jowls, fine lines and a blurred facial contour. To compensate for this loss of volume, men can have their jawline enhanced with hyaluronic acid injections.
The jawline refers to the chin-jaw line from the chin to the ear. With jawline contouring, the lower part of the face is more strongly defined and the jawline is accentuated. At the same time, a chin augmentation can also be performed, for example to treat a receding chin. The chin line is subtly augmented with hyaluronic acid. Nevertheless, the chin area appears optically reduced. The chin is harmoniously adapted to the face, so that men regain distinctive facial features. Another very popular procedure for men is the eyelid lift. With increasing age, the facial muscles slacken and the skin on the face loses its firmness. The skin and muscles then follow the law of gravity and sag downward. This often makes the facial expression look tired and drawn, hooded eyelids can develop and wrinkles form. This development can also be attributed to the Corona pandemic. Since many people work from home, cosmetic surgery procedures and treatments could be carried out "unnoticed" and heal well.
Preventing Aging
Men's skin is thicker than women's and has more sebaceous glands and larger pores. It therefore produces twice as much sebum as women's skin and is consequently oilier. The higher collagen content of men's skin combined with a higher fat content results in a firmer and more toned appearance. Men's skin therefore ages differently from women's skin. The better skin condition does not, however, protect men from developing wrinkles as they age. Men's skin ages later, but then immediately develops deep wrinkles. Men's skin therefore also places different demands on anti-aging care. Men should care for their skin regularly to prevent dryness and expression lines. Supplying the skin with moisture should be an important part of the daily care routine. Here too, care of the eye area is in focus. This area is also thinner and more sensitive in men and should be intensively moisturized to prevent eye wrinkles.
Rejuvenating Procedures
When a cream is no longer sufficient to minimize deep wrinkles, injections with hyaluronic acid can optimally help against dryness lines. Likewise, wrinkle injections with Botox can achieve good results for crow's feet and expression lines. In cases of muscle loss in the face, an eyelid lift can restore an open and alert gaze.
