As with other ultrasound procedures, a smooth ultrasound handpiece is guided over the skin, delivering ultrasound energy into the targeted tissue. In this way, the focused ultrasound energy is deposited into the intended tissue layers to generate the desired tightening effects. In response to this energy, new collagen formation is stimulated within your skin. The skin gradually becomes firmer and tighter, resulting in a natural lifting effect.

Caution is advised in areas with little subcutaneous fat tissue, such as the backs of the hands, knees, and elbows, in order to avoid injury to the periosteum. UV-damaged and very thin skin should only be treated after prior consultation. Active acne, open wounds, skin injuries, and raised keloid scars are contraindicated. Areas containing implants, such as pacemakers or breast implants, are excluded from treatment.

After cleansing the skin, the physician marks the treatment area agreed upon together. An ultrasound gel is then applied and the Ultraformer® handpiece is positioned on the skin. The physician or treating therapist then moves it gently across the skin according to a specific protocol. The location and depth at which the ultrasound pulses are delivered is determined in accordance with the treatment protocol. When a signal is sent, you will hear the barely perceptible sounds of the handpiece. The micro-focused ultrasound energy penetrates the skin surface and exerts its collagen-stimulating effect directly at the desired tissue depth. The total number of ultrasound pulses delivered varies depending on the area being treated and the desired outcome. During the treatment you may experience some discomfort, tingling, a prickling sensation, and a feeling of warmth. These sensations are only felt during the energy delivery phase.
