What is meant by Baby Botox treatment?
Like conventional Botox treatment, Baby Botox aims to smooth expression lines and give the face a more relaxed appearance. The Baby Botox treatment is specifically designed to change the face less dramatically, making it appear less frozen or mask-like.

Baby Botox® in Düsseldorf – Questions and Answers
What is Baby Botox® – Minimal, preventive & effective
Baby Botox®, also known as Botox® Light, is a modern technique for wrinkle reduction. This method uses smaller amounts of botulinum toxin than traditional Botox® treatment in order to achieve a more natural and subtle result. The term "Botox® Light" is therefore equally fitting.
In contrast to the classic method, which uses larger quantities of the neurotoxin, the face retains its natural expressiveness with Baby Botox® and does not appear "frozen". This technique is particularly popular among younger patients who wish to address the first signs of skin ageing without losing their natural facial expressions.
Depending on the facial region, Baby Botox® is often not injected directly into the muscle. Instead, the injections are placed just below the skin surface so that only the superficial muscle fibres are reached. This method is particularly well suited to fine lines under the eyes or early forehead lines.
Advantages of Baby Botox® – Who is it well suited for?
Who benefits from Baby Botox®?
Whilst Baby Botox® offers many advantages and is ideal for those seeking a gentle skin rejuvenation, it is not suitable for everyone. Patients with pronounced expression lines may not be satisfied with the results. The reduced amount of Botox® is not effective for deeper, established wrinkles, so in such cases a traditional Botox® treatment is preferable.
Baby Botox® is an excellent choice for people who desire a subtle skin rejuvenation without dramatic changes. It minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles whilst preserving a natural look. Particularly for those who are just beginning to notice the first signs of skin ageing, Baby Botox® serves as a preventive measure against the development of deeper wrinkles.
Natural result: Smaller amounts of Botox preserve the face's natural expressiveness.
Reduced risks and side effects: Less Botox means a lower risk of side effects.
Faster recovery time: The lower dose allows for quicker recovery.
Individual customisation: The treatment can be tailored to the patient's specific needs.
Cost: Due to the smaller amount of toxin used, costs are lower.
A gentle introduction to the world of Botox®
Baby Botox® is also ideal for those who are concerned about the rigid facial expression often associated with conventional Botox® treatments. It merely reduces muscular activity without completely paralysing it, enabling a more natural appearance. Baby Botox® is therefore particularly well suited to those new to the world of cosmetic treatments who wish to proceed cautiously.
Limitations of Baby Botox®
Baby Botox® is not suitable for deeper or more pronounced wrinkles. In such cases, the classic Botox® treatment or a
Sculptra
treatment is the better choice. Baby Botox is most effective in the early stages of wrinkle formation and cannot treat more established wrinkles such as
frown lines
to a satisfactory degree.
How does Baby Botox® work?
The treatment process
At our aesthetic surgery practice in Düsseldorf, the Baby Botox® treatment is carried out according to a similar protocol to the classic Botox® treatment. Particular attention is paid, however, to establishing whether Baby Botox® is sufficient to smooth the wrinkles as desired. It is not always possible to fulfil a request for Baby Botox®, particularly when more pronounced wrinkles are present. In such cases, a
hyaluronic acid treatment
, a
Sculptra
treatment, a liquid lift,
thread lifting
, or a
facelift
may be considered – depending on the individual's condition. In a personal
consultation
,
Dr. Schuhmann
will explain your options and work with you to develop a joint treatment plan.
Following a thorough consultation and analysis of the facial areas to be treated, as well as the necessary cleansing and disinfection, the botulinum toxin is injected using a fine needle. These injections are generally minimally painful and take only a few minutes. Mild redness or swelling that may occur after the treatment typically subsides quickly. As a precautionary measure, you may take bromelain available from the pharmacy, although this is not necessary in most cases.
For whom is Baby Botox® not suitable?
Possible risks and side effects
Although Baby Botox® is considered very safe, side effects can still occur, such as redness, swelling, bruising, or infection at the injection sites. In rare cases, uneven results or temporary weakness of adjacent muscles may occur.
To minimise complications, it is essential to consult an experienced and qualified specialist. I have many years of experience with this technique and have so far been able to avoid complications.
For whom is Baby Botox® not suitable?
Baby Botox® is not suitable for everyone. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should refrain from Botox treatments, as should individuals with neurological conditions such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Treatment should also be avoided in cases of a known allergy to botulinum toxin or an acute infection in the treatment area.
What is Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox®, also known as facial slimming with Botox®, is the optimal treatment for migraine, teeth grinding, and bruxism, along with the associated neck pain and headaches. A masseter treatment with Botox® reduces the activity of the posterior jaw muscle, also known as the masseter muscle. The Botox® treatment causes the masseter muscle to relax, thereby minimising teeth grinding. As the activity of the masseter muscle decreases, the volume of the chewing muscle gradually diminishes. This results in a slimming of the face. Botox for migraine – the Masseter Botox® treatment can also be very effectively applied in the treatment of migraine.

Botox® for Bruxism (Teeth Grinding) – Masseter Botox®
This frequently occurring phenomenon, which often takes place unconsciously during sleep and can cause a range of problems including tooth wear, muscle pain, and headaches, now has an effective treatment in the form of Botox® injections.
Bruxism is not only unpleasant but can also have serious consequences for oral health. From sensitive teeth to sleep disturbances, the effects can be wide-ranging. Botox® injections offer an innovative solution by relaxing the overactive jaw muscles responsible for teeth grinding. Through this targeted application, a significant improvement in the condition can be achieved and long-term damage to the teeth and jaw can be prevented.
The use of Botox® for bruxism offers a range of advantages. This non-invasive treatment method delivers rapid results and considerably improves patients' quality of life. By specifically relaxing the jaw muscles, teeth grinding is reduced, leading to a decrease in associated complaints such as headaches and tension.
The precise causes of bruxism can be varied and are often not clearly identifiable. However, there are several known contributing factors, including stress and anxiety, misalignment of the teeth or jaw, sleep disturbances, medication, lifestyle factors, psychological factors, and genetic predisposition.
Symptoms can worsen over time if bruxism is left untreated. In many cases, Botox® proves to be an effective option for treating bruxism and relaxing the masseter, particularly when other measures such as a mouthguard are insufficiently effective.
After a Botox® treatment for teeth grinding (bruxism), patients can generally resume their normal eating and drinking habits immediately. It is advisable, however, to be particularly careful during the period in which Botox® is active and to avoid hard or sticky foods in order to prevent possible undesirable side effects.
With
Dr. Schuhmann
as your Masseter Botox® specialist in Düsseldorf, you benefit from comprehensive care and an individually tailored bruxism Botox® treatment.
Botulinum Toxin and Migraine
Botulinum toxin can alleviate migraine. It is most beneficial in cases of chronic migraine, which is defined as: ≥ 15 headache days per month over > 3 months, of which ≥ 8 exhibit typical migraine characteristics (sensitivity to light and sound). Important for you to know: botulinum toxin does not act immediately. The muscle-relaxing effect develops over time – over weeks to months. As a result, patients report fewer headache days, reduced pain intensity, and an overall improved quality of life.
A thorough consultation and examination by a specialist must be carried out prior to every treatment. Tip: A headache diary can also be helpful for better assessing the type of headaches and possible triggers.
Smoothing Wrinkles with Botox® and Fillers
Deeply ingrained wrinkles often need to be treated with both Botox® and fillers. Deep wrinkles usually need to be treated first with fillers, such as
hyaluronic acid
, in order to counteract the volume loss in the subcutaneous tissue. The filler materials used essentially "plump up" deep wrinkles and restore volume to the skin. The subsequent Botox® injection then leads to a relaxation of the heavily strained facial muscles. The combined wrinkle treatment with Botox® and
hyaluronic acid
produces very beautiful results even for pronounced wrinkles.
Botox® for the Underarms: Excessive Sweating
Hyperhidrosis
, a medical condition characterised by
excessive sweating
, can not only cause physical discomfort but also affect self-confidence and quality of life. In many cases, conventional deodorants and antiperspirants alone are not sufficient to improve the situation. This is where Botox® comes in.
Botox® for Underarm Sweating as a Treatment for Excessive Perspiration
Botox®, a botulinum toxin well known for its wide range of applications in aesthetic medicine, has also proven to be an effective treatment option for excessive underarm perspiration. The treatment involves the targeted injection of Botox® into the skin of the axillae (armpits), where it blocks the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. This results in a significant reduction in sweat production and provides long-lasting relief.
The benefits of Botox® for the underarms are numerous. First and foremost, the treatment is highly effective and can considerably reduce sweat production in the axillae. This allows patients to feel more comfortable in everyday life and to move freely without the inconvenience of sweat patches and odour. Secondly, the treatment is minimally invasive and generally very well tolerated. Most patients experience only minimal discomfort during the injection and can return to their normal activities immediately afterwards.
In addition to reducing underarm perspiration, Botox® also offers aesthetic benefits. By decreasing sweat production, sweat stains are avoided, resulting in a clean and well-groomed appearance.
The effect of Botox® in the axillae typically lasts several months before a top-up treatment is required. The frequency of treatments can vary from patient to patient and depends on factors such as the severity of the
hyperhidrosis
and the individual's response to the botulinum toxin.
Dr. Schuhmann
carries out a careful assessment of each patient's individual needs and medical history in order to achieve optimal results.
Underarm Botox® offers an effective and reliable solution for people who suffer from excessive sweating in the axillae. By reducing sweat production, patients can benefit not only from practical advantages such as drier underarms, but also from improved self-confidence and a greater sense of wellbeing in their own body.
Botox® for the Hands: Treatment of Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis
can also affect the hands and lead to considerable impairment in everyday life. Individuals who suffer from this condition may contend daily with wet or damp hands, which is not only unpleasant but can also affect social interactions and professional activities. In such cases, Botox® can be an effective treatment option.
Botox® for the Hands as an Effective Treatment for Hand Sweating
Botox® injections into the palms of the hands can reduce the activity of the sweat glands, resulting in a noticeable decrease in excessive sweating. The treatment is minimally invasive and delivers rapid results, which are often visible within a few days of the injection. The effect typically lasts several months.
In addition, Botox® also offers aesthetic benefits for the hands. Over time, the hands can lose volume through the natural ageing process, resulting in a hollow appearance and an accentuation of veins and tendons. Botox® can act as a volume enhancer here by relaxing the muscles and smoothing the skin. This can lead to a more youthful appearance of the hands.
Treatment with Botox® for the hands is generally very well tolerated and requires no downtime. Patients can return to their daily routine immediately after treatment. As Botox® injections are not permanent, regular top-up treatments are recommended to maintain the effect.
Botox® offers a holistic solution for the treatment of
hyperhidrosis
of the hands as well as for aesthetic concerns. Through the targeted application of Botox®, quality of life can be improved and the outward appearance of the hands can be optimised.

What should you bear in mind before receiving Botox® injections?
If you are considering a
wrinkle treatment
with Botox® in Düsseldorf or a
wrinkle treatment
with Botox® in Bochum, there are a few things you should bear in mind before the injection. Prior to the treatment, you should – in consultation with your GP – if possible avoid blood-thinning medications for a few days beforehand. Due to their blood-thinning effect, there is an increased risk of bruising and haematomas at the injection site.
How does a Botox® treatment proceed?
After the consultation and examination of the wrinkles to be treated, the skin is prepared for the treatment. The relevant areas are disinfected and – if desired – treated with a local anaesthetic cream. The doctor then places injections at various points on the face. A small amount of botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle tissue responsible for the unwanted wrinkles using a fine cannula. The
wrinkle treatment
with Botox® generally takes no longer than 10 to 20 minutes.
What should you bear in mind after a Botox® treatment?
After the wrinkle injection with botulinum toxin, the injection sites are cooled for a short time to prevent minor bruising or swelling. In most cases, any such swelling subsides within a few days. Mild skin irritation in the form of redness may also occur. Immediately after a Botox® treatment, it is advisable to avoid all
contact
with sunlight and other UV radiation for 48 hours to allow the skin to regenerate. It should of course be noted that UV radiation generally promotes wrinkle formation, so prolonged sun exposure should be avoided as a rule, and appropriate sun protection should always be worn outdoors.

What exactly is botulinum toxin A?
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring bacterial protein and nerve toxin produced by various strains of the bacterial species Clostridium botulinum. It is injected directly into the muscle, where it reduces or blocks muscular activity.
How does Botox® actually work?
Botulinum toxin type A, also known as Botox®, is a highly effective protein. Since the mid-1990s, Botox® has been used with great success in the treatment of expression-related wrinkles. The facial skin is underlain by a layer of facial muscles and is firmly connected to them. When the muscles contract, facial expressions are created – for example, when laughing. The vitality of the musculature is important and beneficial, but it is also responsible for the development of unwanted wrinkles, for instance when the eyes are narrowed (frown lines, crow's feet). Over the years, wrinkles become progressively deeper, and often fail to disappear even as muscle tension diminishes with age. This is where Botox treatment helps: by relaxing the facial muscles and thereby smoothing the wrinkles.
Which wrinkles can be smoothed with Botox®?
Wrinkle treatment with Botox® is primarily indicated for wrinkles that display persistent, strong activity and arise from the sustained use of certain muscles in various facial regions. These can vary considerably in their appearance depending on each individual's facial expressions. They develop as a result of the same muscles being repeatedly contracted beneath the skin, causing the skin to be stressed at the same points again and again. If it is possible to halt the constant activity of the muscles beneath the skin, the visible surface of the skin above can be smoothed.
Why does Botox® smooth wrinkles?
Wrinkle treatment with Botox® gives your face a fresh radiance. It ensures that habits such as frowning or squinting the eyes leave no permanent lines on our face. Botox® can eliminate frown lines, reduce forehead lines, and smooth crow's feet. By injecting botulinum toxin A, the muscle is gently inhibited, thereby preventing excessive muscular activity. After Botox has been introduced into the desired area, the muscle can no longer contract. The fine lines caused by muscle contractions no longer form. Since only specific muscle groups are treated, the natural vitality and natural expression of the face are preserved. The facial skin remains smooth and even.
What are the areas of application for botulinum toxin A?
In neurology, Botox has been used successfully for decades in the treatment of spasticity. The active ingredient is also used in migraine therapy. The highly effective active ingredient botulinum toxin A is also a successfully employed agent in the treatment of sweat glands and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). In aesthetic medicine, Botox® is – alongside hyaluronic acid – the second most frequently used substance for wrinkle treatment and wrinkle reduction.
What are the advantages and benefits of wrinkle treatment with Botox®?
In my practice, I inject Botox® into the muscles involved in wrinkle formation, producing a temporary relaxation of those muscles. This immediately results in the smoothing of existing wrinkles. Expression lines in particular – caused by intense muscular activity, such as forehead lines, frown lines, or eye wrinkles ("crow's feet") – can be smoothed to excellent effect. The face looks younger and fresher again – whilst the natural facial expression is preserved.
What are the risks and side effects of a Botox® treatment?
Having a wrinkle treatment with Botox® does not mean that you will lose your individual facial expressions. The correct amount of Botox® and a precise treatment of individual facial muscles produces natural results. Nevertheless, even with a technically correct Botox® injection, minor bruising and slight swelling at the injection sites may occur. Occasionally, allergic reactions may also occur, such as skin irritation and inflammation at the injection sites. These are very rare and, in our experience, disappear within a few days.
Is the Botox® injection painful?
Very fine cannulae are used for the injection of botulinum toxin, so the treatment is not painful. The discomfort is comparable to having a blood sample taken at the doctor's surgery. A slight burning sensation may occur in some cases. For those with a higher sensitivity to pain, a light anaesthetic cream can be applied to the areas to be treated shortly before the Botox® treatment. Occasionally, small bruises, skin irritation, and swelling may develop at the injection sites, but these generally resolve within a few days.
Can anything go wrong with a Botox treatment?
Wrinkle treatment with Botox® should only be carried out by an experienced physician. Although the injection of Botox® is a non-invasive procedure, it nevertheless requires specialist handling. In cases of overdose of botulinum toxin A or improper administration, signs of paralysis may occur. These will resolve over time as Botox® is gradually broken down by the body, but the effects immediately after the injection are visible and unpleasant for the patient. All side effects of Botox® are generally reversible and time-limited, as the active ingredient is progressively metabolised by the body.
How long does Botox® last, and when should you have another Botox injection?
The result of wrinkle treatment with Botox® typically lasts between 4 and 6 months, after which the neurotoxin has been broken down in the muscle. Botox treatment can be repeated as often as desired. With regular use and the corresponding relaxation of overactive facial muscles, the muscular pattern can be harmonised on a lasting basis. The corresponding muscle contractions are, so to speak, "unlearned", thereby helping to prevent further wrinkles from forming. In this way, the intervals between treatments can ideally be extended over time.
When is the result of a Botox® treatment visible?
The result of a Botox® treatment is visible immediately. Muscle inhibition begins right after the Botox injection. In the treatment of crow's feet around the eyes, frown lines, or forehead lines, the botulinum toxin begins to take full effect after approximately 3–5 days. However, it may take up to two weeks for the skin to be fully smoothed. Only at that point is the final result of a Botox® wrinkle treatment visible. Sunbathing and sauna visits should be avoided after a Botox® treatment, as heat accelerates the breakdown of botulinum toxin A.
Which Botox® lasts the longest?
It is not possible to say precisely which Botox® lasts the longest. After the Botox treatment, the first results are visible after approximately 48–72 hours. It takes approximately 5–6 weeks for botulinum toxin to reach its full effect. The result of wrinkle treatment with Botox® typically lasts between 4 and 6 months, after which the neurotoxin has been broken down in the muscle. Regular wrinkle treatment with the muscle relaxant is therefore recommended in order to achieve a lasting result. With regular use, the intervals between Botox treatments can ideally be extended.
Can botulinum toxin alleviate migraine?
Botulinum toxin (Botox) can be beneficial for migraine. It is particularly helpful for those with a very high number of headache days. Botulinum toxin acts preventively in this context and is not suitable for acute attacks. The effect is a consequence of muscle relaxation, for example in the area of the forehead, temples, or masseter muscle (chewing muscle). If you are considering a botulinum toxin treatment, a medical consultation is necessary. Please arrange your appointment here.
What are the costs of a botulinum toxin treatment for migraine?
Treatment costs start at approximately €350.
