Six-Pack for the Lazy – A Six-Pack Is Also Available via Surgery
Bildplus, 10.11.2017
For both men and women, a toned six-pack ranks high on the fitness wish list. Yet behind the sculpted midsections of athletes and models lies a great deal of hard work.
Anyone who has no desire for sport and strict dieting must either live with a paunch or, like Rodrigo Alves, better known as the human Ken, achieve the desired result by other means – namely through surgery.
How a Six-Pack Operation Works
Even a surgically created six-pack does not come entirely without effort: "The patient should definitely carry out abdominal training beforehand to build up the muscles – the more intensively the training is pursued, the better the result after the procedure can be," explains the specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at the practice "KÖ MEDICALS", in conversation with BILD. There is no upper age limit for the operation; however, a significant excess of skin prevents surgery, which is why the procedure cannot be performed on severely overweight individuals.
During the operation, fat cells in the abdomen are suctioned away. "This models the contours of the abdominal muscles: the grooves created produce a visual impression that resembles a six-pack," the physician explains the procedure.
The Risks of a Six-Pack Procedure
As with any surgical procedure, a number of risks must be considered with a six-pack operation: "Circulatory disturbances can occur due to excessive tension on the skin. It is therefore important to wear compression garments for several weeks after the operation. Additionally, sun exposure and sauna visits should be avoided for at least three months. Sport and other strenuous physical activity should also be avoided for approximately three months," warns Dr. Schuhmann. Those expecting quick results will, according to the expert, be disappointed: "Because the post-operative swelling can persist for a very long time, a result is visible at the earliest after three months – and in many cases it can even take a year."
The Result
"The result always depends on the patient's lifestyle," the expert points out. "If they live unhealthily and do not exercise, it can look unnatural very quickly" – and as a consequence, as appears to have happened with Rodrigo Alves, revision work may become necessary.
