How safe are treatments such as Quantum, AccuTite and the like?

Modern radiofrequency treatments in aesthetic medicine

At a glance

  • Modern radiofrequency methods are safe
  • Practitioner qualification is decisive
  • Specialist in Plastic Surgery required
  • Unprotected titles can be misleading

What you should look out for and why good methods are often unfairly discredited

Aesthetic treatments are today more effective and more gentle than ever before. Modern radiofrequency technologies such as Quantum and AccuTite, minimally invasive lipolysis, and modern facial surgery open up new possibilities for skin tightening and rejuvenation. With no or only minimal downtime. And yet: reports of complications, unsatisfactory results or even permanent damage continue to circulate.

The reason for such reports, however, lies not in the method itself, but in how it is applied.

The problem is not the technology but often the practitioner

We have reported on this before: many aesthetic procedures — such as injections with hyaluronic acid, thread lifting, or high-energy facial and body treatments — may be offered by doctors without specialist surgical training. A weekend course or a private certificate is sufficient to work invasively on the face. With significant risks to nerves, tissue, and skin.

Treatments with deep-acting radiofrequency such as Quantum, FaceTite, or AccuTite require a thorough understanding of the tissue layers, vessels, and nerve pathways in the face. If treatment is performed too deeply, too superficially, with too high an intensity, or in the wrong location, burns, nerve damage, or asymmetries can result. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. And it is not a fault of the device! The problem lies in the lack of proper medical knowledge.

Why good procedures become discredited

It happens time and again: highly effective, innovative methods become discredited. Not because they are flawed, but because the practitioner is insufficiently qualified. Left behind are patients with uncertainty, doubt, or long-term harm.

And yet these very procedures, when correctly applied, offer enormous benefits for patient safety and aesthetic outcomes. With Quantum, we use multipolar radiofrequency that controllably warms and tightens tissue. Without surgery. In experienced hands, the treatment can lead to significantly improved skin structure — for example in the areas of the cheeks, chin, or eyes.

What patients can use as guidance

The most important question is therefore not: Is the method safe?
But rather: Is the person treating me truly qualified to do so?

For all treatments that go beneath the skin — whether injections, skin tightening, or liposuction — pay close attention to specialist medical qualifications.

Only specialist doctors in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery possess:

  • a comprehensive, multi-year specialist training in plastic and reconstructive surgery,
  • operative experience across all tissue layers, including vascular and nerve tissue,
  • and the ability to respond appropriately and safely for the patient even in the event of complications.

Everything else is experience following instructions, but not genuine expertise.

Terms such as "cosmetic surgeon" can be misleading

Many practices use freely available terms such as cosmetic surgeon, wrinkle expert, or aesthetic practitioner — titles that sound professional but are not protected. They say nothing about the actual qualifications of the practitioner.

And: not every method is suitable for everyone

Radiofrequency treatments and invasive lipolysis can be a meaningful alternative to surgical procedures. But they belong — just like injections — in the hands of expertly and surgically trained specialists. And they must be appropriate to the individual's situation.

Even popular or particularly gentle procedures can only unfold their effect when they are selected in accordance with the individual tissue structure, skin quality, and treatment goals. Here, experience, a differentiated assessment, and a critical view of medical suitability are decisive.

A comprehensive skin and body analysis, combined with an honest discussion about expectations, alternatives, and long-term effects, forms the basis of every treatment in our practice.

Frequently asked questions

Are Quantum and AccuTite treatments dangerous?

No, when they are performed by qualified specialist doctors in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery. The technology is safe and effective — the expertise of the practitioner is decisive.

How do I recognise a qualified practitioner?

Look for specialist medical qualifications in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery. Titles such as "cosmetic surgeon" are not protected and say nothing about actual qualifications.

What risks exist with improper application?

Incorrect depth, intensity, or placement can result in burns, nerve damage, or asymmetries. This is not due to the method itself, but to the practitioner's insufficient anatomical knowledge.

Is every method suitable for everyone?

No. The selection must match the individual tissue structure, skin quality, and treatment goals. A comprehensive analysis and honest consultation are decisive for success.

Why do good methods become discredited?

Because unqualified practitioners cause complications. The methods themselves are safe and effective, but are discredited through faulty application.
