Welcome – it's good to have you here. On this page I would like to give you an insight into who I am, what drives me and how I work. With more than 30,000 procedures, several years as chief physician at an academic teaching hospital and as a trainer of medical students, I have been running my practice in Düsseldorf since 2016 – as well as a location in Berlin.
In addition, I am the author of medical specialist articles, give lectures at international congresses and am involved in reconstructive surgery on a voluntary basis.

The Düsseldorf aesthetic surgeon Dr. Karl Schuhmann was chief physician of the Clinic for Plastic/Aesthetic Surgery and Hand Surgery at the Augusta Kliniken Bochum Hattingen until July 2023. For 18 years, Dr. Schuhmann built up and successfully led the renowned clinic. Since 2016, the plastic surgeon has run his private practice for Plastic/Aesthetic Surgery and Hand Surgery in Düsseldorf. At the end of 2023, Dr. Schuhmann expanded his sphere of activity and opened a further location with his private practice for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Berlin.
Dr. Karl Schuhmann has been working very successfully as a plastic surgeon, hand surgeon and aesthetic surgeon in Düsseldorf, Hattingen and Bochum for more than 24 years. His international congress activities, his humanitarian missions with Interplast Germany in India and Armenia as well as his work as an expert assessor for the Ärztekammer Nordrhein make Dr. Schuhmann a leading authority in the fields of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery. His treatment focuses are breast surgery, plastic facial surgery with the facelift, the One-Stitch facelifting and the extended lower eyelid lift performed specially by Dr. Schuhmann, as well as professional full-face wrinkle treatment with hyaluronic acid, Botox, Sculptra and innovative fillers. Further aesthetic beauty treatments as well as hand surgery and knee joint denervation are part of his very successfully performed range of services. Dr. Karl Schuhmann is one of the few plastic surgeons who can perform knee denervation in Germany.

For many years, a special commitment has been dedicated to Interplast Germany – with reconstructive operations in countries such as India and Armenia. There, children with cleft lip and palate and patients after burns or injuries are treated. The physicians work here entirely on a voluntary basis. It is about mobility, freedom from pain and giving back quality of life.

The Stiftung Gesundheit awarded Dr. Schuhmann the “Dr. Pro Bono” seal because the plastic surgeon contributes his medical expertise to his voluntary missions as a plastic surgeon for Interplast.
Knee denervation
Dr. Schuhmann and his team are one of the few clinics nationwide that offer knee denervation and shoulder denervation for chronic pain. This innovative procedure involves severing the nerve pathways in the painful areas, which can also be used for osteoarthritis pain in the knee or shoulder.
