PRF for Facial Rejuvenation at artethic®Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) / autologous blood therapy
On this page
At artethic® we increasingly use PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) for natural facial rejuvenation. With this special variant of autologous blood therapy we “refine” skin quality over the long term (skin longevity), strengthen the tissue structure and add subtle volume (similar to a filler) to the skin.
The advantages: these are the body's own substances. Both tolerability and durability are very good. PRF is suitable for the delicate skin around the eyes and mouth (volume and tear trough!). It is applied as an injection or combined with microneedling. Side effects are minimal and there is usually no downtime.
What is PRF?
PRF is a concentrate of plasma, platelets and fibrin obtained from your own blood. Unlike PRP, the blood is processed with lower centrifugal force and no anticoagulant is used. The effect: fibrin components are preserved, creating a gel-like consistency comparable to hyaluronic acid. By contrast, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is more fluid and contains more growth factors.
PRF forms a kind of natural matrix in the skin and releases growth factors gradually, over several days.
With this minimally invasive treatment we can improve skin quality and create subtle, natural volume effects. The treatment is also an option for patients from age 30/40: for prevention, for mild crêpey lines, for wrinkle treatment around the eyes and as a glow treatment.
Which facial areas is PRF suitable for?
We use PRF wherever we want to achieve gentle tissue support: at the lower eyelid, in the tear trough area, around the mouth (including smoker's and lip lines), and on the cheeks and midface. Likewise for slightly sunken skin areas after weight loss (including after weight-loss injections), here possibly in combination with autologous fat.
The decision for a PRF treatment depends on the skin condition and the treatment goal. With deep volume loss (forehead lines, strongly sunken areas) PRF does not replace a hyaluronic filler, nor a surgical indication, but it can effectively complement them.
Differences between PRF and PRP
Both treatments are autologous blood therapies, suitable for use on the skin as well as on the scalp. The start of treatment is the same for both procedures: blood is drawn and processed by centrifuge within the practice. The type of centrifuge differs – and with it the treatment focus:
PRP
- blood is processed with an anticoagulant
- the plasma remains fluid
- the plasma is rich in growth factors
- frequently used with needling or for skin stimulation (collagen stimulation)
- well suited to large-area application (long-term skin improvement)
PRF
- lower centrifugal force
- fibrin is preserved (not the case with PRP)
- gel-like, filler-like consistency
- slower, constant release of growth factors
- a natural alternative to fillers, e.g. for wrinkle treatment in the lower eyelid area
Recommended sessions at artethic®
We often recommend several sessions. This makes sense because the effect is based on biological regeneration processes and is geared toward the long term. The exact number depends on the current state of the skin and also on whether injections or PRF needling are planned.
The costs of PRF
- PRF plus needling – €350.00 per session
- Package of 6 – €1,800.00 (€300.00 per session in the package)
Is a consultation necessary?
A thorough medical consultation precedes every treatment at artethic®. Whether a treatment such as PRF is suitable for your skin can only be decided within such a consultation.
We want you to be happy with the treatment result over the long term. The prerequisites for this are a skin analysis, a discussion of your wishes (intensive or natural effects? which effects?) and a realistic assessment of the outcome. This also includes pointing out alternatives or combinations.
Frequently asked questions
Who is PRF in the face suitable for?
If your skin is losing substance without pronounced volume deficits (e.g. sunken cheeks), then PRF is a gentle and low-side-effect option. Also when it comes to smoothing the skin around the eyes or mouth. PRF is very well tolerated, as the substrate is the body's own. Durability is good and usually longer than with hyaluronic preparations. PRF is frequently combined with microneedling.
Can PRF replace hyaluronic acid (filler)?
PRF and hyaluronic acid are similar in consistency – both rather gel-like – but differ in their effect in the skin. PRF works biologically via growth factors and fibrin and supports tissue quality. Hyaluronic acid shapes and supports more strongly (immediate effects). In some areas (the eye region!) PRF can be an alternative, in others not. The decision for a treatment also depends on the desired effect. If you want a striking effect and a clear immediate result, hyaluronic acid is better suited. An alternative is autologous fat or microfat injections.
How long does the effect of a PRF treatment last?
PRF releases skin-building growth factors with a delay. These processes run over weeks, so visible changes develop gradually. PRF is often part of a regenerative concept (natural facial rejuvenation) and is ideally combined with further biostimulating and effect-enhancing methods.
Is PRF in the eye area lower-risk than filler?
PRF is the body's own and contains no synthetic components. This reduces certain risks, especially in the eye area, but does not eliminate them entirely. PRF is an injection and, like other substances in this area, requires precise knowledge of the vascular and tissue structures.
Does PRF in the face differ from PRF applications on the scalp?
The treatment goal differs considerably. While PRF on the scalp is often used in connection with hair growth, in the face it is about skin quality, tissue structure and subtle volume changes.
