PRF for Hair Loss in Düsseldorf
PRF with fibrin-rich autologous blood (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is a regenerative scalp treatment in which hair follicle-stimulating growth factors are released over an extended period of time. The result when follicles are still intact? Strengthened hair structure, increased density, reduced hair loss, and sustainably fortified hair roots.

What is PRF?
PRF stands for Platelet-Rich Fibrin. The concentrate is derived from your own blood and prepared at our practice. It contains growth factors bound within a natural fibrin network.
How Does PRF Work for Hair Loss?
Unlike PRP, the growth factors are released continuously over a longer period of time, generating a sustained regenerative stimulus within the tissue.
For hair loss of various causes, we can strengthen weakened hair follicles with PRF and improve circulation to the scalp. The causes of hair loss are varied: in most cases, a combination of genetic predisposition, hormonal fluctuations, stress, or reduced scalp circulation plays a role.
Effects on the Hair Follicle
Prolongation of the anagen phase (growth phase)
Improvement of microcirculation
Support of cellular metabolism
Activation of progenitor cells in the region of the hair follicle
Reduction of hair loss (shedding)
Stimulation of dormant hair follicles
Support following hair transplantation (graft integration)
When is PRF Appropriate?
for early-stage androgenetic hair loss
for diffuse hair loss
for hair loss caused by stress or infections
for hormonally related hair thinning
following hair transplantation to stabilise the hair follicles
PRF is not suitable for a completely bald scalp or bald areas with no active hair follicles.
PRF and PRP: The Differences
PRF and PRP are autologous blood therapies that we recommend according to the individual skin and hair situation.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is more liquid, absorbs into the scalp more quickly, and acts immediately as a booster: growth factors are released in a single burst. The result: circulation is enhanced and hair follicles are reactivated. PRP can be distributed over larger areas, for example in combination with medical needling. The general success rate for reduced hair loss is approximately 70 per cent. Learn more about PRP treatment
PRF contains gel-like fibrin, cellular components such as stem cells, and growth factors. The effect develops more slowly and continuously (depot effect). The general success rate for reduced hair loss is 80 per cent, and for improved density up to 100 per cent.
The artethic® Approach: Analysis and Combinations
The success of PRF treatment depends on the underlying cause and the number of still-active hair follicles. A thorough analysis of hair structure and scalp condition is a prerequisite for successful treatment. Possible treatment concepts at artethic® in Düsseldorf:
PRP/PRF alternated with polynucleotides to stabilise the scalp environment and promote regeneration. Learn more about polynucleotide treatment
Supplementation with exosomes to strengthen weakened hair follicles. Learn more about exosome treatment
Scalp preparation with Keravive (Hydrafacial) for cleansing, pore opening, and improved absorption of active ingredients – frequently alternated with PRP. Learn more about Keravive treatment
Combination with Meso-Hairbooster for revitalisation (with the additional use of nourishing and hydrating factors)
Results: What is Realistic?
PRF is not an "instant hair growth" treatment. Hair grows in cycles. This means that changes become visible after several weeks to months, in the form of:
reduced excessive shedding
hair that appears stronger and more resilient
improved hair structure and scalp quality
The earlier we begin treatment (while hair follicles are still active), the better the chances of stabilising the progression.
Frequently asked questions
What About Tolerability and Possible Side Effects?
Adverse reactions are very rare, as PRF is derived from the body's own material. Following treatment, temporary redness, pressure sensitivity, or minor bruising is possible.
What Are the Costs of PRF Treatment in Düsseldorf?
Costs depend on the combination components chosen (e.g. polynucleotides, exosomes, Keravive, Meso-Hairbooster), the individual treatment course, and the intervals between top-up sessions.
How Does PRF Influence the Hair Cycle?
PRF influences the activity of the hair follicle through the release of growth factors. Weakened follicles are maintained in the anagen phase (growth phase) for longer, while resting phases are shortened. The effect depends largely on how vital the hair follicles still are.
Is the Effect of PRF More Sustainable Than That of PRP Treatment?
PRF acts like a biological depot, releasing growth factors in a gradual, step-by-step manner. The treatment leads to a more prolonged stimulation of the tissue. This extended release is the key difference from conventional PRP therapy.
Can PRF Thicken Thinning Hair?
PRF can improve the quality and structure of the hair. If hair follicles are still active, the hair may grow back stronger as a result of improved nourishment. Where follicles remain active, the hair can regrow with greater thickness and vitality.
Can PRF Stop Hair Loss Completely?
PRF can slow the progression and stabilise hair follicles. However, it does not halt the natural ageing process of the hair follicles. Where treatment is successful, we therefore always recommend top-up sessions at regular intervals.
Is PRF Also Beneficial for Hormonally Related Hair Loss?
For hormonally related hair loss, PRF can provide support and deliver good results, provided active follicles are still present. It does not address the hormonal cause itself. A holistic assessment may be important in such cases.
How Long Does the Effect of a PRF Treatment Last?
The duration of effect varies from person to person. Factors such as genetic predisposition, stress, metabolism, and lifestyle all play a role. Top-up treatments can help to sustain the results. We will provide a realistic assessment as part of your consultation at artethic® Dr. Karl Schuhmann & Kolleg:innen in Düsseldorf.
