Scar treatment – Professional skin treatment

Scars and scar treatment

Nobody wants scars, least of all in a visible location. As a plastic and aesthetic surgeon, I always endeavour to favour scar-minimising techniques. However, scars are not always avoidable. In addition, scars most commonly result from injuries, accidents, or burns.

Scars are particularly bothersome on the face. Scar treatment should be undertaken no earlier than one year after the scar has formed. Surgical intervention is not always necessary – injections, fillers, or laser treatments can also help to smooth scars and make them less visible.

Some scars, however, can only be removed surgically. Surgical scar removal is particularly necessary when scar contractures (severely contracted scars) restrict mobility. Scar contractures can develop following burns or chemical injuries to the skin.

We warmly invite you to arrange a

. In a personal discussion and following assessment of your individual scar situation, we will explore the treatment options available to smooth your scars and reduce their visibility.

Scar treatment with cortisone

In scar treatment with cortisone, the cortisone is injected directly into the scar tissue. Cortisone inhibits the production of collagen. Treatment with a cortisone cream is also possible to make scars appear smoother and less prominent.

Scar treatment with laser

Unsightly raised scars can also be treated with a laser. The laser energy causes the blood vessels within the scar to be obliterated, allowing the scar to shrink. Several sessions are required to achieve a good result.

Scar injection with hyaluronic acid

Sunken scars, also known as atrophic scars, can be very effectively raised to the level of the surrounding skin using biomaterials such as stabilised
hyaluronic acid

, making the scars far less visible.
