artethic® is an exclusively private practice for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Düsseldorf, with hand surgery and minimally invasive aesthetics as further areas of focus. The practice was formerly called Dr. Karl Schuhmann.
It was founded by Dr. med. Karl Schuhmann, specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery (since 2001), hand surgeon, founder and owner. The practice has been in Düsseldorf since 2016 and is now located at Grabenstraße 17 in the city centre.
Since 2026, artethic® has also had a second practice in Berlin at Kurfürstendamm 65. There we treat the face and neck: facelifts, upper and lower eyelids, tightening procedures, Sculptra and the Liquid Facelift. Dr. Schuhmann offers consultations and operates in Düsseldorf and Berlin.
Our medical team
Our medical team works under the direction of Dr. Schuhmann. Each doctor brings their own areas of focus, and we exchange knowledge across specialties.
Several of them bring experience as senior physicians from hospital departments of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Schuhmann and Nina Weinz are the team's two hand surgeons, and Gordana Kozina, an international trainer for Galderma, teaches injection techniques in training courses for doctors.

What defines our practice
Everything begins with an open conversation. We bring your wishes together with what makes sense medically, and every procedure is a shared decision.
Natural results
A natural look is our most important principle. A result should blend in discreetly with your overall appearance, which is why we avoid overcorrection and do not try to make you match unrealistic ideals. If a procedure is not necessary, we advise against it, and if another treatment suits you better, we recommend that one instead.
Realistic information
Our standards include realistic information and a recommendation to take out complications insurance before every planned procedure.

Experience since 1995
Dr. Schuhmann has been gaining experience in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery since 1995. From 2005 to 2023, he was chief physician at the Augusta Kliniken Bochum-Hattingen for around 19 years.
Exclusively private practice
We treat privately insured and self-paying patients and charge according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ). If you wish, you can finance larger procedures in instalments.
Revisions and second opinions
If you would like a previous operation corrected, we carry out revisions and corrections. We also give second opinions and, on request, prepare a medical expert report.
Treatments under one roof
We plan surgery, non-surgical treatments and medical cosmetics within one practice and coordinate them with each other. Combination treatments are a particular strength of our team.
I only carry out treatments that I can justify medically and ethically. I decline all other treatments.

- Awards and teaching
In 2026, FOCUS-Gesundheit recommends Dr. Karl Schuhmann in the Düsseldorf region as a plastic and aesthetic surgeon and as a hand surgeon. In the category of reputation and recommendation, it places him among the top 10% of its data analysis across all specialties and regions.
In 2016, the department in Hattingen that he headed at the time received the “Training Centre of the Year” award from the Associate Members of the DGPRÄC, in the category for up to three trainee doctors. In 2020, Dr. Schuhmann was congress president of the XX Spring Academy of the VDÄPC in Düsseldorf.

In addition, Dr. Schuhmann is a member of the Association of German Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (VDÄPC), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), the Society for Aesthetic Surgery Germany (GÄCD) and the European Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (ESPRAS).
- Humanitarian aid
From 2005 to 2023, Dr. Schuhmann operated as a volunteer with Interplast Germany e. V. in India and Armenia, mainly on people with cleft lip and palate and with burn injuries. For this commitment, he holds the “Dr. Pro Bono” seal of the Stiftung Gesundheit foundation.

You will be advised in person by Dr. Schuhmann or another doctor from our team. The consultation is charged in accordance with the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ), at €120 with Dr. Karl Schuhmann and at €80 with our other doctors.
