SMAS

The SMAS (Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System) is a connective tissue-muscular layer that connects skin, muscles, and deeper structures (connective tissue). Changes in the SMAS are largely responsible for age-related skin laxity in the face, chin, and neck. In SMAS facelift, this layer is surgically tightened and repositioned. The results of this technique are typically more natural and longer-lasting than purely superficial skin tightening.
