Breast Implant Exchange

RTL Explosiv accompanied patient Larissa during her implant exchange in Düsseldorf. Pain and hardening made the exchange urgent – modern implants now ensure a safe and aesthetic result.

Why an exchange was necessary

The old implants originated from an operation performed abroad and showed quality defects. Capsular contractures caused pain, and Larissa also wished for more volume. Prior to the procedure, we analysed the tissue situation, breast shape, and skin quality in order to determine the appropriate size and position of the new implants.

The surgical procedure

Under general anaesthesia, we first removed the old implants as well as the scarred capsular tissue. This was followed by the placement of anatomical premium implants and the shaping of a harmonious décolleté. The desired D-cup was achieved – with soft transitions and a stable form.

Aftercare & Safety

After the exchange, patients wear a specialist bra for six weeks. Regular check-ups, scar care, and abstaining from nicotine support the healing process. High-quality implants come with guarantees and significantly reduce the risk of further complications.

Emotional support

An implant exchange is often associated with uncertainty. Transparent counselling, an experienced surgical team, and close support before and after the operation help to restore confidence – for a result that feels right and brings lasting satisfaction.

FAQ

When do breast implants need to be exchanged?

An exchange is necessary when complaints such as pain, capsular fibrosis, ruptures, or quality defects occur. Regular check-ups help identify problems early.

How does an implant exchange procedure work?

First, the old implants and any capsular fibrosis are removed. We then place new, high-quality implants – often combined with a shape correction.

Can the size be increased or reduced at the same time?

Yes. During the exchange, the volume can be adjusted. The size, profile, and position of the new implants are planned individually, and autologous fat may be added if appropriate.

How long is the recovery period?

Rest and a supportive bra are important for approximately six weeks. Follow-up appointments and scar care ensure that the result remains stable in the long term.
