Dr. Karl Schuhmann humanitarian aid

Dr. Karl Schuhmann operated on war victims in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, for nine days in April 2021.

Invitation to Armenia

Dr. Schuhmann was invited by Dr. Karen Danielyan, Chief Physician of the Arzni Aesthetica Surgicenter & Medspa Clinic. The connection with his Armenian colleague was established through international conferences. Dr. Danielyan asked him two months prior to assist with the care of war victims.

The Armenian Ministry of Health approved his humanitarian mission. Dr. Schuhmann used his annual leave for this aid mission.

Treatment of Severe War Injuries

The injuries treated were primarily hand injuries, nerve injuries, shrapnel wounds and physical disfigurements.

"We operated on people with very severe injuries and physical disfigurements, which were frequently caused by the use of shrapnel."

In total, Dr. Schuhmann saw 120 patients in consultation and operated on 20 of them. He also performed consultative operations at further hospitals.

Plastic Surgery Is More Than Cosmetic Surgery

Dr. Schuhmann emphasises: "For me, plastic surgery is considerably more than purely cosmetic surgery." He plans to continue his commitment to humanitarian aid.
