Will every glance in the mirror remind her of the accident forever?
The Stage Accident
Singer Helene Fischer (38) injured herself during an acrobatic routine at her concert in Hannover. Covered in blood, she finished the song "Wunden", left the stage, and had to cancel the concert – the injury was too deep to continue.
At the hospital, the laceration was treated and sutured. She reassured her fans on social media: "Please don't worry about me. I'm fine. I've been very well taken care of."
The question: Will a scar remain forever nonetheless?
"Yes, of course a scar will remain there permanently", explains Dr. Karl Schuhmann, Plastic Surgeon in Düsseldorf.
"I assume that Ms Fischer's wound was sutured properly. A fundamental principle is to place the scar along the skin tension lines – where the least tension acts, making it finer. If Ms Fischer cares for the wound correctly, it can become very inconspicuous over time."
The most important factors for good scar healing
Sun Protection
UV radiation can cause scars to darken. Consistent sun protection is essential for a good outcome.
Scar Massage
Regular, gentle massage promotes blood circulation and can make the scar more supple.
Silicone Products
Silicone gels or sheets can help make the scar flatter and less noticeable.
Be Patient
The final result can only be assessed after several months. Scar maturation takes time.
Timeline: Scar Healing
Weeks
Wound closes, sutures are removed, initial healing
Months
Scar may still be red and raised, active scar care is important
Months
Scar matures, becomes lighter and flatter – final result visible
Professional treatment is crucial
The way a wound is sutured has a significant influence on the subsequent scar appearance. Lacerations, particularly on the face, should be treated by experienced doctors.
