New York, facelifts, and the trend towards natural-looking results

Dr. Karl Schuhmann is travelling to New York in April for the international Facelift Master Course (NYC Facelift & Rhinoplasty Master Course). There, the world's leading surgeons meet to exchange insights on modern facelift techniques and their combination with new procedures such as biostimulation — in theory and in practice. The focus: the modern Deep Plane Facelift, brow and temporal lifting, minimally invasive liposuction, and the prevailing trend towards visibly natural results. Also on the agenda: which treatments can be meaningfully combined.
NYC Facelift & Rhinoplasty Master Course, 23–26 April 2026
The programme comprises, acrossfour interactive congress days, demanding live operations, lectures, and open discussion rounds. The Master Course is one of the largest international continuing education formats for modern facial rejuvenation. At its centre are new facelift techniques, the trend towards more natural-looking outcomes, and the combination of brow and temporal lifting, eyelid corrections, minimally invasive liposuction, rhinoplasty, and innovative adjunct procedures.
New York as the meeting point of facelift surgery
For Karl Schuhmann, New York is the city of collegial exchange this spring. Together with 50 high-calibre facial surgeons, the focus is on genuine insight into operations, live surgery with new approaches, substantive discussion rounds, and presentations of the most varied surgical styles.
New York is where trends take shape — it is here that the direction of plastic and aesthetic surgery over the coming years becomes apparent.
The focus in 2026 is above all on one topic: thenatural facial rejuvenation.
Natural-looking results are the true challenge today
Patients today desire a fresh, rested appearance — and increasingly so worldwide. No visible interventions or over-tightened faces. This is equally true in the USA, which was previously more associated with pronounced skin-tightening results.
Natural results place particular demands on technique. Facelifts now engage the SMAS layers — at the Deep Plane level. These are the deep tissue and muscle layers.
In the Deep Plane Facelift, the tissue is released in its natural structure and repositioned. The upper skin layer remains relaxed, and no tightened expression is created.Autologous fatandbiostimulatorsor energy-based methods additionally influence skin quality. These techniques in combination require a delicate touch and considerable surgical experience.
The modern Deep Plane Facelift — on everyone's lips
TheDeep Plane Faceliftis one of the most widely discussed procedures at international congresses. In specialised hands, it is among the interventions that enablenatural and long-lasting results.
The distinguishing feature: the tissue is repositioned as a single unit.
Facial transitions become softer, and the contour is naturally emphasised.
The modern Deep Plane Facelift is often complemented by lifting of the brow and temporal region. This area has a particularly pronounced effect on facial expression. Descended brows, pressure on the upper eyelid, or a tired gaze influence the overall appearance far more than individual lines.
At the New York Master Course, an entire course day is dedicated toDeep Plane Face & Neck.In addition, there is endoscopic rejuvenation on the first day and complementary techniques on the fourth congress day. This clearly illustrates the direction of travel: away from isolated individual measures, towards a holistic view of the face, the tissue, and the expression.
Combinations are the new standard
When it comes to an overall natural appearance, more than a single isolated procedure is usually required.
Modern facial rejuvenation therefore combines:
- Facelift
- Brow and temporal lifting
- Eyelid corrections
- Improvement of skin quality
Such combinations aim to achieve results that appear more natural and remain stable over the long term.
A classic facelift primarily tightens the lower face — the jawline and, where appropriate, the neck. The eye and brow region has generally remained unchanged. Depending on the current condition of the skin, an imbalance may arise and, in certain circumstances, an unnatural impression.
In New York, the combination withbrow and temporal liftingand eyelid correction will therefore also be an important topic. These ensure a cohesive rejuvenation across all three facial thirds. Such concepts are increasingly becoming the surgical standard:
- Repositioning tissue (facelift)
- Opening the expression (brow/temple)
- Improving skin quality (e.g. autologous fat, biostimulators)
Master Course with international experts
At the Master Course, the experience of the world's leading plastic surgeons converges. Learning from and with colleagues centres on detail and direct comparison:
- How much tightening is appropriate, and when?
- When should the brow region be treated at the same time?
- Which technique and which combination suits which skin type?
Facial contouring: small changes, great effect
For the finer surgical work involved incontouring the jawline or cheekbone, the combination with minimally invasive liposuction is integral. This is also employed alongside modern facelift techniques — for example, to define contours more distinctly.
A look at the USA: Denise Richards and the new natural look
A currently prominent example is Denise Richards. She has spoken publicly about her facial surgery and has emphasised that it comprises several components: facelift, brow lift, brow and temporal lifting, upper eyelid correction, lip lift, and fat transfer.
The result is widely perceived as particularly natural and not over-tightened.
The treating surgeon was Ben Talei, an internationally recognised colleague of Dr. Karl Schuhmann.
The direction of modern facial rejuvenation
The development makes one thing clear:
Facial rejuvenation is becoming more holistic. Aesthetic techniques are being combined. Results are becoming ever more natural.
The exchange in New York will confirm this approach — one we already pursue in our practices in Düsseldorf and Berlin. We warmly invite you to arrange a no-obligation consultation.
