Gynaecomastia

Gynaecomastia is an enlargement of the male mammary gland. In many cases the cause is a hormonal imbalance in which the influence of oestrogen predominates over testosterone. Such an imbalance can occur at various stages of life: during puberty, in adulthood or with age. An important distinction: True gynaecomastia: here there is increased glandular tissue. Pseudogynaecomastia: here it is a matter of increased fatty tissue. In practice, mixed forms are frequently present. Treatment always depends on the individual findings. Pure fat can, where appropriate, be reduced by liposuction. The glandular tissue usually has to be removed surgically, as it does not respond to conservative measures. Depending on the starting situation, the skin retracts to varying degrees after the operation. In selected cases, additional skin tightening, for example with Quantum RF, can be advisable.
