Hooded Eyelids

Hooded eyelids occur due to excess skin on the upper lid. The mobile lid is partially or completely concealed. The skin in the area of the upper lid frequently becomes lax over time. There are, however, also cases in which the eyebrow descends and presses onto the lid. This is referred to as a pseudo-hooded eyelid. This distinction is important. A true hooded eyelid can usually be treated effectively by surgical lid tightening. In the case of a pseudo-hooded eyelid, lifting the eyebrow is the primary focus. Genetic predisposition, significant weight loss, or persistent irritation can likewise play a role in the development of a hooded eyelid. Beyond aesthetics, a hooded eyelid, when pronounced, can restrict the visual field. Some patients report tired eyes or a burning sensation.
