Tear Trough

The tear trough is a depression between the lower eyelid and the cheek. It results from anatomical structures such as ligaments and fat compartments and becomes more visible with increasing age. The underlying cause is usually a loss of volume in the midface. Treating or smoothing the tear trough is among the most demanding minimally invasive methods in the facial area. The use of hyaluronic acid is frequently discussed and is not suitable for every case. If used at all, only special preparations are employed. The skin in this area is very thin and sensitive. Unsuitable preparations or incorrect placement can lead to swelling (malar oedema), visible transitions and bluish discolouration (Tyndall effect). Specialist medical analysis and the individual combination of the various procedures are the basic prerequisites for a successful treatment.
