After 18 years at the helm of the Department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Karl Schuhmann is leaving the Evangelisches Krankenhaus Hattingen to devote himself entirely to new professional endeavours. Since 2005, he has built up specialist departments, structured teams and set standards – always with the aim of accompanying patients in a holistic manner.
The departure is not a farewell to patient care, but a deliberate restructuring: the department remains in familiar hands under the leadership of Dr. Colja Cordes, whilst Dr. Schuhmann concentrates his energies on the private practice in Düsseldorf.
"Thank You for Your Trust"
With these words, Dr. Schuhmann bids farewell to the colleagues and staff of EvK Hattingen. He emphasises how important the years of collaboration between nursing, theatre teams, administration and medical colleagues has been – as well as the trust of patients, which he regards as his greatest motivation.
A Look at What Has Been Achieved
- Establishment of an interdisciplinary department for Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery within the Evangelische Stiftung Augusta
- Setting quality standards in reconstructive procedures, burns surgery and aesthetic operations
- Networking of the Hattingen and Bochum sites for seamless patient pathways
- Promotion of junior surgeons through structured training and operative mentoring
Tributes on His Departure
"With Dr. Schuhmann, a physician departs who has had a lasting impact on the development of our institution."
What Comes Next?
In Düsseldorf, Dr. Schuhmann wishes to further refine his vision of modern plastic and aesthetic medicine. Facial surgery, regenerative skin medicine and bespoke body concepts will offer patients the space to make conscious, informed decisions – beyond short-lived trends.
