Dr. med. Karl Schuhmann navigates between two entirely different professional worlds. In his private practice "Kö Medicals" for cosmetic and aesthetic surgery in Düsseldorf, he serves as consultant and physician for patients seeking aesthetic refinements. A growing number of women and men trust his expertise in treating the signs of ageing through modern medical methods, provided the treatment follows an individual approach. His range of services includes procedures on the breasts, eyelids, ears and nose, as well as skin tightening for mature patients.

His other role presents a contrasting reality. As Chief Physician at the Augusta Kliniken in Bochum Hattingen, he treats patients with severe injuries requiring reconstructive work. In addition, he undertakes annual humanitarian missions to India with Interplast, where he primarily performs surgery on burns patients and those with cleft lips and palates.

When asked how he reconciles these opposing spheres, Dr. Schuhmann explains: "It is simply the same craft. Anyone who cannot reconstruct a burnt face has no business performing facelifts." Aesthetics serves as the connecting principle across both areas.

He emphasises that patient consultations should begin by identifying specific concerns rather than posing open-ended enquiries. His philosophy focuses on correcting legitimate problems without promoting unnecessary procedures driven by vanity.

His practice relocated to the Königsallee owing to increasing demand and the area's development as a premier destination for cosmetic surgery in Germany. He notes that German patients typically seek such procedures either in Munich or Düsseldorf.

Dr. Schuhmann originally aspired to a career in dermatology, but discovered his passion for surgery during his medical training and has been practising for 22 years. In his spare time he enjoys riding motorcycles and surfing – always taking care to protect his hands.
