Adrenaline

Adrenaline is a hormone produced naturally by the body. In surgery, it is often added to local anesthetics. It causes blood vessel constriction and reduces blood flow to the surgical area, resulting in less blood loss and significantly improved visibility for the surgeon. Post-operative bruising is also reduced. In plastic surgery, adrenaline is used, for example, in tumescent anesthesia for liposuction. The benefits must always be weighed against potential risks, particularly in patients with certain cardiovascular conditions.
